Indian Digital Economy Ranked 28th on User Spending
A report by ICRIER’s Prosus Centre for Internet and Digital Economy reveals that while India is the third largest global economy, its digital user economy ranks 28th.
This highlights a gap between overall digitalization and individual user engagement. Despite high internet connectivity, user spending remains modest. However, India’s digital economy is growing at twice the rate of its overall economy and is projected to contribute one fifth of the GDP by 2029.
The report uses the CHIPS framework to assess digital access, quality, and AI readiness, ranking India eighth in a combined evaluation.
