Welcome to Phase 1 of the contest.

We'll send deadline reminders, new FAQ entries, and any other important news about the contest to this channel.

Remember that the sample quizzes you've passed as part of our evaluation task should be considered the bare minimum, or even too basic for the purposes of this contest. We invite you to do better and surprise us with something creative and spectacular.

Please read the full document below, and good luck! πŸ’ͺ πŸ’ͺ

πŸ“š New & Updated FAQ Entries:

β€’ Should I create a "Reference Page" for my Quiz?

β€’ Can I use animations and audio in my Quiz, how about other supported media?

β€’ Can one of my questions link to, or expand on, a question from another Quiz in my Set?
(Added clarification about questions within the same Quiz.)

These additions and clarifications were made because of questions from participants. So, if you have a question which is not already answered in the FAQ, you should ask it in @contests with the tag #AptitudeContestQuestion
πŸ“š New & Updated FAQ Entries:

β€’ Should I create a "Reference Page" for my Quiz?
(Added extra clarification about general external links too, full entry below.)

We strongly recommend using zero external dependancies, such as pages people need to read before they can take your Quiz.

Our Language Evaluation Quiz used a Reference Page to test a very specific reading comprehension skill in depth. A similar effect could be achieved using pre-poll text.

Note: This also applies to any external content which is essential to open before the Quiz can be taken, or before specific questions can be answered. Your main focus should be designing questions based on features supported directly by the Quiz platform.

β€’ What is considered as "testing vocabulary" or "testing spelling"?

β€’ How long should quiz-takers get to answer each question?

These additions and clarifications were made because of questions from participants. So, if you have a question which is not already answered in the FAQ, you should ask it in @contests with the tag #AptitudeContestQuestion
πŸ’‘ Guidance:

You should now have started to test your Quiz Set.

To help with this, we have added some extra advice about areas which you should focus on - once the basic testing has been completed:
β€’ 1.1.2.1 - Other areas to test

We'd also recommend using the quiz.directory platform to share your Quizzes with testers. The steps to do this can be found here. This platform will also be used in the next phase, for peer review.

πŸ“š New & Updated FAQ Entries:

β€’ How do I show that non-original media in my Quizzes is allowed to be used?
(If you are using non-original public domain or free license media - even if just as a small part of a larger image - you must follow the extra steps outlined in this entry.)
πŸ’‘ Guidance:

You should now spend some time performing a final review of your work, to prepare it for submission.

Test your Quiz Set end-to-end and make sure that any recent changes you've made have not caused new issues.

Additionally, proofread your Cover Letter.

Submission will become available tomorrow.
πŸ’‘ Guidance:

You can now submit your Quiz Set & Cover Letter to us.

Instructions can be found here:
β€’ 1.3.2 - Submission

The deadline for submission is 2021-02-08 at 23:50:00 (Dubai time, check local time here).

We strongly recommend that you submit your work at least several hours before the deadline.

If you submit early, you will still be able to edit the Quizzes you submit until the deadline passes, at which point they will become uneditable.

πŸ’‘ Guidance:

Phase 2 starts now! Hopefully you have found some time to rest and recharge from Phase 1, welcome back.

First up in Phase 2: Peer Review

Read the full documentation here:
β€’ Aptitude Test Contest - Phase 2

⏰ ~7 days will be spent here. From 2021-02-14 to 2021-02-22 at 23:50:00 (Dubai time, check local time here).

Your work in both Peer Review and Rebuttal will be rated alongside your Quiz Set, and influence the final prize that you receive. Therefore, this is an essential part of the contest - it will not be possible to reward those who choose not to participate in Phase 2.
πŸ“š Updates:

The Issue List has been updated to make it clearer that "Questions which are too simple or too hard" should be used when you want to indicate that the question timer is too long or too short for certain questions.

πŸ’‘ Guidance:

We have added a new "Review Quiz" button which will show you all Quiz details in the original question order, this allows you to make sure your question tags are correct.

If there is a Quiz assigned to you where this original question order is different from the one you will see while completing it, we will send you an extra message soon - with details on how to check and correct your peer reviews.

For all new reviews, you must use this new Review Quiz page while crafting your comments. Otherwise, your peer reviews may refer to the wrong questions when posted.

The Peer Review Steps and Commenting Guide have been updated, please reread them.
πŸ’‘ Guidance:

Only 24 hours are left
for you to complete your remaining Peer Reviews.

⏰ The deadline is 2021-02-22 at 23:50:00 (Dubai time, check local time here).
πŸ’‘ Guidance:

~95%
of Peer Reviews have now been received.

As we're very close to 100%, we will continue to allow reviews to be submitted - up until 2021-02-23 at 23:50:00 (Dubai time, check local time here).
πŸ’‘ Guidance:

Rebuttal
starts now. Here, you'll post rebuttals to each Peer Review comment you received, outlining which issues you agree should be fixed (and how, if it differs from a suggested approach), and which you disagree with and consider invalid.

Read and follow the full instructions here:
β€’ 2.2 - Rebuttal

⏰ ~3 days will be spent here. From 2021-02-26 to 2021-03-01 at 23:50:00 (Dubai time, check local time here).

As a reminder, your work in both Peer Review and Rebuttal will be rated alongside your Quiz Set, and influence the final prize that you receive. Therefore, this is an essential part of the contest - it will not be possible to reward those who choose not to participate in Phase 2.
πŸ’‘ Guidance:

Phase 3 will involve Telegram Judges taking a final look through all of your work. Naturally, this may take some time.

While you do not have any tasks for this phase, we are interested in any reports of useless/extremely low-effort Peer Reviews. If you had to deal with any of these during Rebuttal, this is your chance to alert us to them.

Send ONE message to the contests group with direct links (right click the timestamp of the comment and "copy URL") to all such review comments that you received, with the tag #AptitudeContestPeerReviewReport. Do not mention any participant names in your message.

We do not want to hear about reviews that you just disagreed with a lot, but instead, cases where the main content of the Peer Review comment resembles the following examples:
"The Quiz was good, but images in #q2 and #q3 didn't load."

or:

"PEER REVIEW

No issues."

or:

"PEER REVIEW

The Quiz was good but the timer was too slow."

Also included:
- Cases where most/all question tags (e.g. #q1, etc.) are wrong.
The Aptitude Test Contest is now over.

As we mentioned in the results announcement post, this was not an easy contest, so congratulations to the winners!

You will be able to edit your Quizzes again shortly, and we will be in touch soon regarding your rewards. Remember that you must not share the content you submitted to this contest anywhere.

If there are future rounds, you'll hear from us again. Until then, take care✌️.
Your Quizzes can now be edited again.

Please take some time to fix all typos and grammar mistakes. You should also implement any other reasonable fixes - including those which were suggested in Peer Reviews.

Once we're ready to send rewards, we'll be in touch with each of the winners to collect the details we need to process payments. You will need to have a bank account that can accept a transfer in EUR.

Remember, you must not share the content you submitted to this contest anywhere.
