#RIP - The Mitre Pub at 164 #Croydon Road, Anerley, #London, #SE20, which is now currently undergoing a ruthless death, was built in the mid‑Victorian era, to serve the growing suburb of London. Born in roughly the 1860s, the developer claims that (after having left it to rot for decades) that it's structurally unsound. 🙄 As well as this, for a long time, its alleyway was used for criminal activity. So, instead of fixing contemporary issues, they'd rather destory our historically and culturally revlevant
buildings in aid of a new, stale world.

St Martin's Lane is a street in the City of #Westminster that runs from the church of St Martin-in-the-Fields (where it gets it name) to near #TrafalgarSquare. As we can see the church spire at the bottom of the hill, we can tell we're looking down the hill from North to South. On our right is an old Beer House that has since long gone. There are still a few pubs present, notably the Salisbury. We are so spoilt with photography these days that Illustrations like this no longer get the credit or attention they deserve. @BritainsPubs

#RIP - The Grey Eagle that was once located at 47 Quaker Street, London, E1 6SN, in the #Shoreditch area is now a "guest house" called "Grey Eagle Apartments Shoreditch" and is now completely covered in horrific graffiti.
Someone made their living room into their own version of the 'Prancing Pony' from #LordOfTheRings. Now THAT it ten times better than having a TV in the corner!

The dead cats that once sat behind the bar at Dirty Dicks pub in Swedeland Court, 202 #Bishopsgate, #London, #EC2M. The "Dirty Dicks" pub was named after Nathaniel Bentley, who was known for his unkempt appearance and having a messy home after the death of his fiancee. The pub was originally called The Old Jérusalem, and in honour of Nathaniel, changed to "Dirty Dicks" upon which it created a themed interior with dead cats and cobwebs to reflect Bentley's story. The pub was rebuilt in the 1870s, but the unique decor, including the mummified cats, was a popular attraction. While the original decorations are no longer on display, the pub maintains its unique history and name.

The ground floor balcony of the Prospect of Whitby, which has been used for centuries, can no longer be accessed. How lucky we are to have had the opportunity to do so. Maybe it will reopen, or maybe it's gone for good. We can only hope that it comes back…
