#Belarus:

Polls have now opened in Belarus's presidential election.

De facto president Alâksándr Lukašenka is running for reelection despite being widely considered to have lost the 2020 presidential election. Exiled opposition leaders have called for the public to either not vote or to vote "Against All."

https://europeelects.eu/belarus
#Belarus:

Five candidates will be on today's ballot in Belarus' presidential election.

Alâksándr Lukašenka — *
Aleh Hajdukevič — LDPB-*
Alâksandr Chìžnâk — RPPS~S&D
Hanna Anatolʹeǔna Kanapackaâ — *
Sârhej Syrankoǔ — KPB~LEFT

However, all four other candidates are seen as pro-Lukašenka and not actually challenging him.

#Belarus:

Opposition and pro-democracy groups have repeatedly been targeted by Lukašenka's regime. Several are in prison or exile. Some have faced new obstacles created to prevent their participation in today's election.

Vadzìm Sarančukoǔ (BNF-ECR) — charged in absentia for "facilitation of extremist activity", currently in exile.

Mikalaj Statkevič (BSDP(NH)-S&D) — currently in prison, his lawyer and family has not been heard from him since 9 Feb. 2023.

Dzmitryj Kučuk (BPZ-G/EFA) — sentenced to 6 years on 25 December 2024.

Sârhej Čèračan' (BSDH-*) — ineligible to run for president after the minimum age was raised from 35 to 40.

#Belarus:

No election monitors from the OSCE will be present, after Lukašenka's regime failed to extend an invitation — in breach of its OSCE commitments.

The regime has registered election monitors from allied or friendly groups such as:

The Commonwealth of Independent States Interparliamentary Assembly
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization
The Pan-African Parliament
The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia
The Youth Organization of the Non-Aligned Movement

#Belarus:

Some international groups — including the foreign ministers of 🇪🇪Estonia, 🇱🇹Lithuania, and 🇺🇦Ukraine — have already condemned today's presidential election in Belarus, arguing that the regime has made it impossible for a fair and free contest to take place.

According to Viasna, "As of 26 January, 2025 — 1245 persons in Belarus are considered as political prisoners"

#Belarus:

On 22 January, 2025, the European Parliament approved a resolution, "denouncing the ongoing and long-standing grave violations of human rights and democratic principles in Belarus, which have further intensified in the run-up to the so-called presidential election on 26 January, [and asking] the EU, its member states and the international community not to recognise the legitimacy of incumbent dictator Aliaksandr Lukashenka as president after the vote."

The resolution passed 567 votes in favour, 25 against with 66 abstentions. Here is what percent of each EU parliamentary faction voted in support:

Centre-right EPP: 100%
G/EFA: 100%
Liberal RE: 100%
Centre-left S&D: 99%
National-conservative ECR: 96%
Right-wing PfE: 73%

#Croatia: the right-wing Domovinski Pokret (DP~ECR), currently in national government with HDZ (EPP), falls to an all-time record low polling result of 1.8% in the latest Ipsos poll - the lowest polling result ever obtained by a party founded in 2020.

If repeated in the next national parliament election, this would be the party’s worst result ever.
