IELTS Writing Model Answer

Some people believe that success is defined by the amount of money a person earns, while others think it is about achieving personal goals and happiness. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Model Answer 1

Success is a subjective concept that means different things to different people. Some individuals equate success with financial wealth, while others believe it lies in personal fulfillment and happiness. This essay will discuss both perspectives and provide my viewpoint.

On one hand, many people associate success with wealth because money is often perceived as a symbol of achievement. A high income allows individuals to afford a comfortable lifestyle, travel, and access luxury items. For instance, wealthy business magnates like Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos are often regarded as successful due to their immense fortunes. Moreover, financial success can provide a sense of security and status, which can lead to societal recognition and admiration.

On the other hand, there are those who argue that success is more about achieving personal goals and finding happiness. For them, success is not necessarily tied to material wealth but to a sense of purpose and contentment. For example, someone who dedicates their life to social work, education, or artistic pursuits may feel immensely successful by positively impacting others' lives, regardless of financial gain. Personal satisfaction, emotional well-being, and a strong sense of fulfillment often outweigh monetary achievements.

In my opinion, while financial stability is important, true success is more closely related to personal happiness and achieving one's goals. Money can provide comfort and opportunities, but it does not guarantee inner peace or contentment. Ultimately, a balanced approach, where one pursues both financial security and personal fulfillment, is the most sustainable definition of success.
