در نُهمین روز از آذرماه در تقویم باستانی ایرانیان که نام روز و ماه یکی می‌شود یعنی روز آذر در ماه آذر، جشن «آذرگان» برگزار می‌شده است. نیاکان ما "آذرگان" را روزی مبارک می‌دانستند و در خانه‌ها و بام‌ها آتش افروخته و آن روز را با شادی و شادمانی و خواندن نیایش‌ها و گستردن سفره آیینی مراسم ویژه­‌ای برای جشن برگزار می­‌کردند. نظافت و پاکیزگی، از جمله ستردن موی و چیدن ناخن در این روز نیک بود

On the ninth day of the month of Azar in the ancient Iranian calendar, when the name of the day and the month are the same, that is, the day of Azar in the month of Azar, the "Azergan" festival is held. 👑 امپراطوری هخامنشی

شاهنشاهی یا امپراطوری هخامنشی نخستین و تنها پادشاهی بود که بخش بزرگی از جهان را برای بیش از دو سده یکپارچه کرد. شاهنشاهی ایران در بزرگترین گستره خود در سال ۴۸۰ پیش از میلاد هشت میلیون کیلومتر مربع (برخی آن را پنج‌ونیم میلیون کیلومتر مربع می‌دانند) از دره سند در هند تا رود نیل در مصر و ناحیه بنغازی در لیبی امروزی و از رود دانوب در اروپا تا آسیای مرکزی وسعت داشت که آن را تبدیل به وسیع‌ترین امپراتوری باستانی تاریخ جهان کرد.

شاهنشاهی هخامنشی یا نخستین امپراتوری پارس (در منابع غربی) (به پارسی باستان: 𐎧𐏁𐏂  'Xšāça') (۵۵۰–۳۳۰ پیش از میلاد) یک پادشاهی باستانی ایرانی در باختر آسیا بود که توسط کوروش بزرگ در سال ۵۵۰ پیش از میلاد بنیان‌گذاری شد.

در دوران خشایارشا یکم به بزرگ‌ترین گسترهٔ خود رسید که از شبه‌جزیره کریمه و بالکان و اروپای شرقی در باختر، تا دره سند در خاور امتداد داشت. این شاهنشاهی بزرگ‌ترین امپراتوری جهان تا بدان روز بود و در مجموع ۵٫۵ میلیون کیلومتر مربع (۲٫۱ میلیون مایل مربع) گسترهٔ داشت. همچنین این شاهنشاهی نخستین ابرقدرت جهان نیز بود.

پارس، در جنوب‌غرب فلات ایران، بخشی بود که خاندان هخامنشی در آن قدرت گرفت. پس از چند سده حکومت بر این منطقه (بنگرید به: پادشاهی هخامنشی)، یکی از اعضای این خاندان به نام کوروش بزرگ، شاهنشاهی ماد، پادشاهی لیدی و امپراتوری بابل را فتح کرد و شاهنشاهی هخامنشی را بنیان گذاشت. دولتی که او بنیان نهاد، بیش از دو سده تقریباً بر همهٔ جهان متمدن آن روز فرمان راند، تا اینکه در نهایت به‌دست اسکندر مقدونی در سال ۳۳۰ پیش از میلاد فروپاشید. اسکندر تنها چند سال پس از فتح امپراتوری درگذشت که همین مسئله موجب از بین رفتن یکپارچگی سرزمین‌های سابق شاهنشاهی هخامنشی گردید و دیگر هرگز این سرزمین‌ها زیر یک پرچم متحد نشدند.

The Achaemenid Empire

The Achaemenid Empire, also known as the First Persian Empire, was the first and only monarchy that unified a significant portion of the world for over two centuries. At its greatest extent in 480 BCE, the Persian Empire covered eight million square kilometers (some estimate it to be 5.5 million square kilometers), stretching from the Indus Valley in India to the Nile River in Egypt and the region of Benghazi in modern-day Libya, and from the Danube River in Europe to Central Asia. This made it the largest ancient empire in the history of the world.

The Achaemenid Empire, or the First Persian Empire (as referred to in Western sources) (Old Persian: 𐎧𐏁𐏂 'Xšāça') (550–330 BCE), was an ancient Iranian monarchy in Western Asia, founded by Cyrus the Great in 550 BCE.

Under Xerxes I, the empire reached its greatest territorial extent, stretching from the Crimean Peninsula, the Balkans, and Eastern Europe in the west to the Indus Valley in the east. This empire was the largest in the world up to that time, covering a total of 5.5 million square kilometers (2.1 million square miles). It was also considered the world's first superpower.

Persis, located in the southwest of the Iranian Plateau, was the region where the Achaemenid dynasty rose to power. After several centuries of ruling this area (see: Kingdom of Anshan), a member of this dynasty named Cyrus the Great conquered the Median Empire, the Kingdom of Lydia, and the Neo-Babylonian Empire, establishing the Achaemenid Empire. The state he founded ruled over nearly the entire civilized world of that time for over two centuries until its collapse at the hands of Alexander the Great in 330 BCE.

Alexander died just a few years after conquering the empire, leading to the disintegration of the former Achaemenid territories. These lands were never again united under a single banner
