For the past three years, we have been going home and staying off-campus for months during the University Entrance Examination (UEE) period. However, after discussions with the Medical Faculty Heads and the Student Union President, yesterday’s Academic Committee (AC) meeting proposed that medical students should return immediately to campus after UEE and attend classes instead. The final decision now rests with the Senate.

What we’re doing now: We are actively working with the JU Student Council to persuade every Senate member to vote in favor of our immediate return to campus after the UEE.

Meet Kebena Hambisa, a 5-year-old child from Wollega, currently admitted to the Pediatric Oncology Ward.
He has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive type of eye cancer that is growing rapidly. Due to the high risk of uncontrollable bleeding, surgery is not an option at this time. His doctors have instead decided to start chemotherapy — planned in three rounds — to shrink the tumor.

Kebena and his family have already been staying in the hospital for over a month, and the cost of treatment, medications, and living expenses is becoming too much for them to bear.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, particularly changes in the academic calendar, we were unable to launch the process as originally planned. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we realigned with the revised university schedule.

With that said, we are now pleased to announce that the application for the EMSA–Jimma Electoral Board for the academic year 2025/26 is officially open. The Electoral Board plays a critical role in ensuring a fair, transparent, and smooth election by overseeing all stages from the initial call for candidates and nomination handling, to vote counting and final result announcements. This is a responsibility that demands neutrality, integrity, and a strong sense of duty.

We are calling on all eligible and committed students to apply and be part of this vital process. To be eligible, you must be a currently enrolled medical student at Jimma University in good disciplinary standing, and you must not be running for any executive board position in the upcoming election.

If you believe in upholding democratic values and want to contribute to the credibility of the election, we encourage you to apply.
