πJC Talks: A Powerful Start! π
On Saturday, Justice Club successfully launched its first-ever JC Talks, diving deep into "The Role of Youth in Law and Governance through Advocacy." It was an inspiring and thought-provoking session, thanks to our incredible panelists Jodahi B. Petros, Meron Anteneh, and our very own Justice Club President, Felicity Feleke, who shared their unique insights and experiences as youth changemakers. A huge shoutout to our dynamic host, Nebyat Esubalew, for steering the conversation with such energy and depth!
β¨Thank you to everyone who joined us, our amazing participants, the team that worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and everyone who made this event a reality!

The Principle of Non-Retroactivity in Light of the Newly Enacted Asset Recovery Proclamation No. 1364/2017
By: Dagem Paulos
The newly ratified proclamation blends civil and criminal principles, allowing asset recovery based on a balance of probabilities standard and placing the burden of proof on the defendant.
It permits the state to reach back 10 years, raising key constitutional concerns:
π‘Is the retroactive application of procedural law constitutional?
π‘Does this approach erode the presumption of innocence?
π‘Can civil evidentiary standards be used in criminal-like proceedings?
Read the full analysis on how Ethiopiaβs new Asset Recovery Proclamation challenges core legal principles.

Who Gets to Ride? Ethio-Djiboutiβs Digital ID Rule and Potential Disparities
By: Mekdelawit Dereje
All Aboard? Not Without Fayda.πͺͺ
Ethio-Djibouti Railwayβs new digital ticketing system requires a Fayda ID, leaving many Ethiopians without access to essential transport, while foreign nationals are exempt.
This raises real concerns around freedom of movement, equality, and digital inclusion.
Modernization should connect people, not exclude them.
