#QandA
Matthews asks,
I love reading, but I'm losing interest because I feel like it's becoming useless.
There is an common perception that if something is recommended then you should do regardless of its utility to you.
Example: people tell us to study hard, work hard, get a secure job and save and invest in well diversified portfolio of stocks, bond and mutual fund.
There is nothing wrong with this. But it dosent work for everyone. For majority? Yes.
As majority of people arent ambitious enough or care enough to give a fuck to start doing own thing. They let their fear get in way (any thing new like even buz starting is fearful but thats why we do homework in form of learning about sales, product etc let me know in fourm if you want to know more about this.)
Initially when I started my reading journey, it wasnt to understand how reality works or any virtuous reasons, I started to read to get laid. Simple as that.
So after seeing results in that side, I seen I would love to have money too, so for that topic I started to read on. And so on.
You should read books for selfish reasons. Dont care about classical books that everyone talks about. Care only about what you want.

Social media as documentation This concept is unique. And I heard it first time from Gravyee Vaynerchuk's YouTube Channel. Using social media as documentation means to document your specific skill as you learn them and teach them to your followers. It…
Documentation by social network sites I rarely do it now. I love the fact since 2020 I have written documentation of things in my life. From each day. Way better that vids and photos.
But vids and pics have their own space and need, you need to be able to see yourself, how much you have changed etc.
For vids 1 sec a day is great( did shared an app, but I use VN software on phone).

Amazing course on how to explain someone (and yourself) on paper.
Great for sales, brainstorming and even for your notes.
My notes more insightful and getting easier to make sense.

Two levels of notetaking I do books which are worthy of notes of them taken. Not of fiction. (Inspired from Cal Newport).
1. Pages markings. Thats it.
2. Write about it.
basically if an book requires me to think deeply, and its about something I deeply care about. Then I do this type of notetaking.
After each chapter read, write about what author has made arguments. Totally understand it.
Then write your pov on it. You can add yes I have experienced this thing in my life. And can write, this another book I read goes completely 180 on it.

Do I take notes from all books? no.
I don't take notes from those books or topics that i don't care about (even though book could be complex and be non-fiction).
So if your focus is getting rich, you better well advised to take notes either level 1st or 2nd level.

Hey everyone! 👋 You might notice some changes to the channel. I've updated the name to Mastering Knowledge Beyond Textbooks, refreshed the profile image, and tweaked the bio.
This shift reflects a more focused approach on providing practical strategies for students (and lifelong learners!) to effectively read and take notes from diverse non-fiction books – philosophy, history, finance, and more – to enhance your learning and integrate insights into your studies efficiently.
So that whatever you are currently doing (CFA, CA, UPSC, or any other intensive course or college), you can be building broader understanding of the world and empowering yourself to carve your own unscripted new career path with confidence, equipping yourself with a versatile skillset for whatever the future holds.
Expect to see more tips and techniques on active reading, powerful note-taking systems, conquering complex texts, and connecting knowledge across different fields.
I'm excited about this new direction and hope you'll join me on this journey of mastering knowledge! Let me know what topics you're most excited to explore! (and any comments you want to share) @Chetneet

Keeping a notebook is basic.
Without an place (not connected to internet), where you can contemplate and predict and reflect.

Examples.
1st level notetaking I did of books like Sold Out by James Richards, Slow Productivity by Cal Newport, Shoe Dog.
2nd level notetaking: Rational male series, Book of Pook, Being Supernatural by Joe Dispenza.

Why specifically notebook?
Lovely feedback loop.
At this point I have filled around 34 bullet journals. Started to regularly write in it since nov 2020.
And its good feedback loop of seeing notebooks upon notebooks filled.

Why reflecting is way more important that reading another new book?
My learning equation.
Learning = Predicting + Experience + Reflection.
For now forget other variables. Will expand upon them later.
You wont see book reading in the equation, because reading without any reflection is passive activity.

Only reading books wont get you anywhere.
Not applicable in case where you really not care about topic but want to have informed opinion on it.
Like you be way way way better informed by reading (not even taking any notes) a avg book on web 3.0 industry than reading thousands of tweets.

Without a notebook, you can't sophisticatedly make sense of what's happening or what the author is trying to argue. Without doing that, you will forget what you just read.
So, if you can't control and articulate what you just read (even though you could disagree with it), then do you think you can refer to your current model of understanding and deduce or contrast it with what you already know?
That's how you hit a learning ceiling. As your conceptual chain grows, you need a great learning infrastructure to make sense of things. And I haven't been able to find anything better than a notebook (Da Vinci would agree, haha)
