Hadith on Ashura (Saturday 5th July): Recommendation to fast the day of Ashura

Ibn Umar reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Ashura is a day among the days of Allah. Whoever wishes to fast may do so, and whoever wishes to break his fast may do so.”

عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ عَاشُورَاءَ يَوْمٌ مِنْ أَيَّامِ اللَّهِ فَمَنْ شَاءَ صَامَهُ وَمَنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَهُ

( وَیَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمۡ ثُمَّ تُوبُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِ یُرۡسِلِ ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ عَلَیۡكُم مِّدۡرَارࣰا وَیَزِدۡكُمۡ قُوَّةً إِلَىٰ قُوَّتِكُمۡ وَلَا تَتَوَلَّوۡا۟ مُجۡرِمِینَ )

"And O my people, seek forgiveness from your Lord and then turn to Him in repentance. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers and increase you in strength in addition to your strength. And do not turn away as wrong-doers."

ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُمْ بِالِاسْتِغْفَارِ الَّذِي فِيهِ تَكْفِيرُ الذُّنُوبِ السَّالِفَةِ، وَبِالتَّوْبَةِ عَمَّا يَسْتَقْبِلُونَ، وَمَنِ اتَّصَفَ بِهَذِهِ الصِّفَةِ يَسَّرَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ، وَسَهَّلَ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرَهُ وَحَفِظَ [عَلَيْهِ] شَأْنَهُ [وَقُوَّتَهُ]وَلِهَذَا قَالَ: ﴿يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا﴾ ،وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ: "مَنْ لَزِمَ الِاسْتِغْفَارَ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لَهُ مَنْ كُلِّ هَم فَرَجًا، وَمَنْ كُلِّ ضِيقٍ مَخْرَجًا، وَرَزَقَهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ".

Then he (i.e., the Prophet) commanded them to seek forgiveness, which wipes out past sins, and to repent for what is to come. Whoever adopts this quality, Allah makes his provision easier, facilitates his affairs, and protects his state and strength.
That is why He said:
"He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers" —
and in the Hadith:
"Whoever constantly seeks forgiveness, Allah will make for him a way out of every worry, a relief from every distress, and provide for him from where he does not expect."

The Best of Men ﷺ

Sending abundant salawāt upon the Messenger ﷺ is a manifestation of our love, reverence and obedience to him. Sent as a mercy for mankind, he ﷺ constantly remembered us and worried about us.

Ṣalla Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam.

Rather, you prefer the life of this world, while the Hereafter is better and more lasting.

How weak our minds and how impatient we are! We prefer the transient over the everlasting. Blessed is he who weighs the worldly life according to its true weight and recognizes its truth.

O Allah, make our concern Your pleasure and the Hereafter.

Every soul will taste death.

Every soul will inevitably taste death. Our existence in this life is nothing but a test of the commands and prohibitions, and of the changing circumstances, both good and evil. Then, we return to God alone for judgment and recompense.

O God, have mercy on our dead and the dead of all Muslims, and have mercy on us when we reach what they have reached.

Some individuals make their worship conditional, saying: “O Allaah! If You answer my prayers, I will do such-and-such.” It is discouraged to impose conditions on Allaah, as this is considered bad manners. The creation has no authority to set conditions on Allaah or to test Him; instead, it is Allaah who tests His creation. One should maintain unwavering devotion in his worship and persistently supplicate to Allaah without attaching conditions, as the Prophet ﷺ stated

مَنْ ‌سَرَّهُ ‌أَنْ ‌يَسْتَجِيبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ عِنْدَ الشَّدَائِدِ وَالكَرْبِ فَلْيُكْثِرِ الدُّعَاءَ فِي الرَّخَاءِ
“Whoever would be pleased to have Allaah respond to him during hardship and disaster should make much Du`aa’ in times of ease.”

﴿ وَإِذْ فَرَقْنَا بِكُمُ الْبَحْرَ فَأَنجَيْنَاكُمْ وَأَغْرَقْنَا آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَأَنتُمْ تَنظُرُونَ﴾ [البقرة : ٥٠]

And [recall] when We parted the sea for you and saved you and drowned the people of Pharaoh while you were looking on.

On the day of Ashura

Musa عليه السلام arrived at the sea
There was no escape
The sea was in front of him.
And Firawn was behind him...

And the children of Israel said to him:
Indeed, we are overtaken

but he answered them with the answer of one who trusts in his Lord:
No, indeed, with me is my Lord. He will guide me.

O Allāh, grant us certainty in you like the certainty of Musa عليه السّلام, belief in your promise like the belief of Musa عليه السّلام, and trust in You like the trust of Musa عليه السّلام.

{ وَوَصَّى بِهَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بَنِيهِ وَيَعْقُوبُ يَابَنِيَّ إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَى لَكُمُ الدِّينَ فَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ }
[Al-Baqara: 132]
- English - Sahih International:
And Abraham instructed his sons [to do the same] and [so did] Jacob, [saying], "O my sons, indeed Allāh has chosen for you this religion, so do not die except while you are Muslims."

{ أَمْ كُنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءَ إِذْ حَضَرَ يَعْقُوبَ الْمَوْتُ إِذْ قَالَ لِبَنِيهِ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ بَعْدِي قَالُوا نَعْبُدُ إِلَهَكَ وَإِلَهَ آبَائِكَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ إِلَهًا وَاحِدًا وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُسْلِمُونَ }
[Al-Baqara: 133]
- English - Sahih International:
Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob, when he said to his sons, "What will you worship after me?" They said, "We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac - one God. And we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."

{ وَقَالُوا كُونُوا هُودًا أَوْ نَصَارَى تَهْتَدُوا قُلْ بَلْ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ }
[Al-Baqara: 135]
- English - Sahih International:
They say, "Be Jews or Christians [so] you will be guided." Say, "Rather, [we follow] the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth, and he was not of the polytheists."

{ قُلْ أَتُحَاجُّونَنَا فِي اللَّهِ وَهُوَ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكُمْ وَلَنَا أَعْمَالُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَالُكُمْ وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُخْلِصُونَ }
[Al-Baqara: 139]
- English - Sahih International:
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Do you argue with us about Allāh while He is our Lord and your Lord? For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. And we are sincere [in deed and intention] to Him."

{ أَمْ تَقُولُونَ إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَالْأَسْبَاطَ كَانُوا هُودًا أَوْ نَصَارَى قُلْ أَأَنْتُمْ أَعْلَمُ أَمِ اللَّهُ وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنْ كَتَمَ شَهَادَةً عِنْدَهُ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَمَا اللَّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ }
[Al-Baqara: 140]
- English - Sahih International:
Or do you say that Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants were Jews or Christians? Say, "Are you more knowing or is Allāh?" And who is more unjust than one who conceals a testimony he has from Allāh? And Allāh is not unaware of what you do.

{ تِلْكَ أُمَّةٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَلَكُمْ مَا كَسَبْتُمْ وَلَا تُسْأَلُونَ عَمَّا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ }
[Al-Baqara: 141]
- English - Sahih International:
That is a nation which has passed on. It will have [the consequence of] what it earned, and you will have what you have earned. And you will not be asked about what they used to do.

{ رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغۡ قُلُوبَنَا بَعۡدَ إِذۡ هَدَيۡتَنَا وَهَبۡ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحۡمَةًۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡوَهَّابُ }

[Surah Âl-`Imrân: 8]

˹They say,˺ “Our Lord! Do not let our hearts deviate after you have guided us. Grant us Your mercy. You are indeed the Giver ˹of all bounties˺.

Umar_Ibn_Al_Khattab رضي الله عنه said:

“I am not worried about whether my dua will be responded to,but rather I am worried about whether I will be able to make dua or not. So if I have been guided to make dua, then I know that the response will come with it.”

Subhanallah😭❤️

Don't let go of that dua. Keep making that dua. Miracles happen everyday. Don't worry about the 'How'. He is Al-Azeem (The magnificent), Al- Fattah (The supreme solver), Al- Mujeeb (The responsive one). 'How' is from Allah. The one who answers the Dua. Everything will soon make sense in a very beautiful way. Don't let anxiety consume you. Just Pray and trust the power of a sincere Prayer. Allah will soon show you answers to your prayers. Allah will grant all your prayers at the right time. He wouldn't put you through all of this to give you less than what you had before. It's coming, just be patient. -🌷

﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا﴾

Translation: O you who’ve believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire…

This means: He teaches him (the child) the halaal and haraam. And he prohibits him from disobedience and sin and other than that…
