Turns out Judge Katharine Parker, handling Luigi Mangione case, has some connections raising more than a few eyebrows. Apparently, she’s sitting on millions in healthcare and pharmaceutical stocks, and to top it off, her spouse used to be a Pfizer exec.

The pretrial proceedings for Luigi Mangione, accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, are drawing scrutiny over potential conflicts of interest involving Magistrate Judge Katharine H. Parker, who is overseeing the hearings. Judge Parker's husband, Bret Parker, previously served as a vice president and assistant general counsel for Pfizer until 2010 and continues to collect a pension from the company. Additionally, Judge Parker holds substantial financial investments in Pfizer and other health-related companies, as revealed in her 2023 financial disclosures.
While Judge Parker will not oversee Mangione's trial, her role in pretrial hearings has prompted concerns about impartiality. Her financial ties, including holdings in Pfizer (valued between $50,000 and $100,000) and other pharmaceutical and biotech companies such as Abbott Laboratories and CRISPR Therapeutics, have fueled criticism. Adding complexity, a note allegedly found on Mangione at the time of his arrest criticized the power and influence of major corporations, including those in the healthcare sector.
