Why is he like this

Everytime I go and look at him he has squished his face underneath his body against the glass

When I was making this enclosure I thought I would have to be really careful with trimming and maintaining the plants since Smeagol and his little venomous face would be there roaming around, but this guy doesn't ever leave his basement

I assume he goes out at night to catch crickets, since the crickets I put in the tank are gone, but I'm not really sure. I was thinking about setting up a camera to get a timelapse of his antics at night.
