It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows.

God of the Sun,
O youthful, most beautiful Apollo,
I invite you to my hearth to rest
As the sun sits low in the sky.
Please sit upon my altar,
Embrace my home and hospitality,
For what have is given by the graciousness of your radiance.
I thank you fervently for your blessing of the warmth of the sun's happiness upon those whom I hold dear.
It is with humility and honor that I devote to you.
I ask that you, masterful healer, craftsman of
plague,
Continue to grace my kin with health and wellness,
That we might bask in your effervescent light for days to come.

The truth is this: none of the Gods love wisdom, nor desire to become wise, for they already are (wise).
Nor does anyone else who is wise love wisdom.
.
Neither do the ignorant love wisdom, nor desire to become wise.
For this is the harshest thing about ignorance, that those who are neither good nor beautiful nor sensible think that they are good enough.
No one desires what they are lacking when they do not think themselves lacking.
Plato, Symposium

1. Now philosophy is knowledge of real beings or knowledge of divine and human things, because real beings are either divine or human.
2. Philosophy, because it is harmony and virtue, neglects neither the gods on account of the complexity of human affairs, nor human affairs on account of the majesty of the divine, but extends its care to each.
3. But philosophy is also a preparation for death, since those who commit suicide loosen the bond that the Demiurge has tied, while the philosophers loosen the bond that they themselves have tied.
4. But philosophy is also becoming like god, by reason of Lycurgusβ dictum, who was a philosopher: βAnd I am in doubt whether I shall declare you a god or a man.β
5. But philosophy is also the craft of crafts and the science of sciences, since it instructs the other crafts.
6. But it is also love of wisdom, since it knows immaterial things.
Elias (ἨλίαΟ) of Alexandria
