Insurgents are often thrown out of helicopters for a specific reason — they tend to talk more quickly when this happens than under torture. In one instance, the South African army took a captured terrorist up on a helicopter with a bag over his head, and as they threw him out, he revealed everything they needed to know. He survived — the helicopter was just two meters off the ground.

Upon his safe return bearing a German cigar as a gesture of goodwill, more soldiers cautiously joined in, leading to a scene of opposing forces mingling in No Man's Land during the peaceful exchange. Thus commenced the impromptu Christmas Truce of 1914.
