Telegram has announced a number of measures aiming to tackle the spread of disinformation through its platform in Brazil. These features are part of an agreement between the platform and the country's authorities ahead of the elections in October. Hui said the messages, which included urging the disruption of airport operations, were attempts to incite followers to make use of poisonous, corrosive or flammable substances to vandalize police vehicles, and also called on others to make weapons to harm police. But a Telegram statement also said: "Any requests related to political censorship or limiting human rights such as the rights to free speech or assembly are not and will not be considered." Judge Hui described Ng as inciting others to βcommit a massacreβ with three posts teaching people to make βtoxic chlorine gas bombs,β target police stations, police quarters and the cityβs metro stations. This offence was βrather serious,β the court said. A Hong Kong protester with a petrol bomb. File photo: Dylan Hollingsworth/HKFP.
