The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed an affidavit opposing the plea of Varavara Rao in the Bombay High Court. #NEW: Analysis by Amnesty International has found that at least 7,000 health workers have died around the world after contracting #COVID19. 👩‍⚕️👨🏽‍⚕️

In #India, figures from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare state that so far over 87,000 health workers have been infected, and 573 have died.

The countries with the highest estimated numbers of #healthworkers who have died from COVID-19 include Mexico (1,320), USA (1,077), UK (649), Brazil (634), Russia (631), #India (573), South Africa (240), Italy (188), Peru (183), Iran (164) and Egypt (159).

“Throughout the pandemic, governments have hailed health workers as heroes, but this rings hollow when so many workers are dying from a lack of basic protection,” says Steve Cockburn from Amnesty International.

NEWS: The right to a fair and impartial trial is paramount to ensuring justice. Denial of this right is as much an injustice to the accused as it is to the victim. The manner in which certain individuals including #RheaChakraborty and her family have been vilified by media channels impedes this right.

"Media agencies must definitely play a role in holding justice mechanisms accountable, but they are not a substitute for a fair and effective legal process" said Executive Director Avinash Kumar.
