‘Fields of Sight’ is a collaborative project between Indian photographer @_gauri_gill_ and indigenous Warli artist @rajesh.vangad.79, rooted in the Adivasi village of Ganjad, in Maharashtra, India. Merging modern photography with traditional Warli iconography, this series creates a new visual language that challenges viewers to perceive the land through multiple lenses. Gill’s stark black-and-white photos capture the raw essence of the landscape, while Vangad’s intricate Warli drawings imbue them with the spirit of the land and its stories, revealing hidden truths beyond the visible.

The project arose from Gill’s realisation that her photography, though visually striking, missed the deeper, intangible aspects of the land that Vangad’s narratives vividly convey. Vangad’s mythical symbolism over Gill’s printed photos reconfigures the scenes both formally and conceptually, populating the landscape with elements of Warli life—daily activities, myths, and ancestral wisdom.
