Hi! So let’s learn the next particle で, pronounced de.

At the beginner stage, the first usage of で is to indicate the place where an ACTION occurs.

Action examples:
⁃ 寝ます nemasu, to sleep
⁃ 食べます tabemasu, to eat
⁃ 飲みます nomimasu, to drink
⁃ 遊びます asobimasu, to play
⁃ 勉強しますbenkyou shimasu, to study

Sentence examples:
⁃ レストラン　で　食べます。
I eat at a restaurant
⁃ 部屋　で　日本語　を　勉強します。
Yesterday I studied Japanese in my room.

Here we’ve restaurant and room as the place where eating and studying happened.
And this is what makes the particle differs from particle に which can also be used to show place but for EXISTENCE usually verb あります/います.

Sentence example:
⁃ 猫　は　部屋　に　います。(existence, wujud lol)
Cat is in the room.

People usually get confused because あります/います are associated with particle に but in Japanese, we also have the verb ています form.

So Vています is a verb form where an action is happening now/continuous (-ing)

Let’s say now, I’m studying Japanese.
今、日本語　を　勉強しています。

どこで？
Where？

今、部屋　で　日本語　を　勉強しています。
Now I’m studying in my room.

But if I ask where are you now?
今、どこ　に　いますか？

I’m in my room.
今、部屋　に　います。
