Michael Docherty took the Rally2 prologue in 7′16″, romping home with five seconds in hand over Edgar Canet and his KTM and seven over Tobias Ebster and his Hero. This is the South African's sixth prologue win, after the 2023 Dakar and Desafío Ruta 40, and the 2022, 2024 and 2025 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. It is also his 24th career W2RC triumph, putting him one win shy of the record holder Romain Dumontier!
South African Safari Rally | Ultimate category | Prologue
Saood Variawa, who became the youngest-ever Dakar stage winner last January, bested fellow Hilux driver Henk Lategan by 8 seconds to take the top spot in the prologue. Two South Africans hold the fastest times so far.
The 2023 national champion, Gareth Woolridge, the 36th driver out of the gate today, has crashed the Toyota party in the top 3 of the prologue, slotting his Ford Ranger between Variawa and Botterill's Hiluxes. This makes it an all-South African top 5, featuring three different models made in South Africa. Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa, NMW and Century Racing are shining on home turf. Henk Lategan is no longer on the podium of the day.

The championship leader, Alexandre Pinto (Old Friends Rally), lived up to his status in the prologue. The Portuguese driver put 15 seconds into his teammate José Nogueira and 18 into another compatriot, Mário Franco, who is trying his hand at racing in this class. FIA European Baja Cup 2025: standing after Baja Troia Türkiye
FIA European Baja Cup Overall
Already after the second round of the European Cup, Baja Troia Türkiye, we can see how the new format of the series (including the modernized points system) is starting to bring surprises. The new FIA European Baja Cup leader in the overall standings is Poland’s Bartłomiej Wajzer from the Stock category - he successfully used the new possibilities and was able to collect a large number of points in two starts.

Prologue winner's time - 6:44.3
110% of the winner's time - 7:24.7
START ORDER AFTER THE PROLOGUE
Following the Prologue, the start order for Stage 1 shall be given according to this procedure:
The drivers in Group Ultimate having set a time within 110% of the fastest, as well as all other FIA Platinum and Gold priority drivers with Ultimate vehicles (including those not classified as per Art. 34.4.3), will form a group whose order will be reversed in relation to the Prologue classification (i.e. the driver in the group with the slowest time in the Prologue will be placed first).
The top ten drivers in Group Ultimate, providing they set a time within 110% of the fastest, will choose their start positions among this group.
The driver in tenth place will choose his start position first, followed by the driver in ninth place and so on. The fastest driver will choose his start position last. The driver will be responsible for choosing the position and must be present throughout the procedure.
New system intended to avoid tactics by slowing down during the Prologue. This also avoids to systematically “oblige” the driver finishing 10th in the Prologue to open the road on Stage 1.
