Mattias Ekström's departure from Audi after two decades: an appreciation of his racing career
It's time to say thank you and goodbye. People who know me know that that's not really my strength and this time I really feel as the story is coming to an end it's time to do it in a way that you all understand how much I appreciated the last 20 plus years. With this I mean all the people that have been around me especially mechanics, engineers, marketing, press people, board members, teammates and also competitors, the fans.
I must also say special thanks to all the teams that I've been driving for, starting in 1999 with KMS in Sweden and Tommy Kristofferson and his family. Then to Helmuth, who helped me to come out of Sweden to Germany, and starting my career with Abt and Hans-Jürgen and Christian that took care of me for many, many years.
Also Hans-Jürgen helped me to come to the office of Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich and also that have been an extremely nice experience in my life. Later Dieter Gass took over and later Julius and Rolf.
When I started EKS and we wanted to win the Rallycross World Championship, that's probably the most difficult project I've done, but that's something I look back on with big pleasure now.
The latest program, you all know, with Dakar, wanting to go there and try and win this. It didn't work out for me, but then Carlos won, and also that had been a really great time with him and Stéphane and Sven Quandt, where I learned a new sport. And again, I can't say enough how happy I am, but it's just really when I start to reflect on my past and I want to say thank you, I realize how much I appreciate spending time with you all and that was a real life adventure. Again, thank you very much and I look forward to the future. I wish you also the best whatever you will do and for Audi all the best and good luck in F1. You will need it. Thank you again for all what you have done for me.
To do this is more difficult than you realize...

📖 Italian Championship: successful attack by Mengozzi&Brun
Last weekend (September 20–21) a new race Baja dello Stella was organized, which was the fourth round of the Italian Championship out of six planned.
After that the initiative was taken over by Mengozzi, who won the two remaining special stages and became the winner of the race with an advantage of 21 seconds over Schiumarini. Now their battle for the title became even more intense - Manuele Mengozzi won three out of four rounds and reduced his gap from leader Andrea Schiumarini to 19 points.
