“Abuse is criminalizing a child’s existence. Parents affirming their trans children is love.” source
As much as we may want to pretend that our kids don’t see or hear what’s going on around them, they do. When there is tension in the air, our kids feel it.
When Trump took office and jumped into action terrorizing our immigrant communities, our babies could feel the fear and anxiety from the adults around them.
And when people took to the streets to protest and demonstrate in solidarity with our immigrant families, the kids could feel that, too 🤎
One of the most powerful things we can do as parents is help our children find their voice, to express how they feel and to fight for the people they love. Shoutout to the families raising these little revolutionaries ✊🏽🌹
AND FOR ALL YOU CAREGIVERS OUT THERE, we are hosting our What to Tell the Children Workshop this Saturday, March 1st, 10am-12pm PST
During this session, we will learn strategies for how to communicate with children about complex political issues, emphasizing empathy, understanding, and hope 🤎 source

HARRIET 😭😭😭😭 I used to pretend I was Harriet the Spy and I had a utility belt with a magnifying glass and mirror and flashlight and other trinkets and I would creep around my neighborhood and to this day my favorite kind of notebook is the black and white composition book 📓
This movie meant/means so much to me and my trajectory as a writer. I’m so sad, y’all. @michelletrachtenberg will be missed 💔😭 source

It is incredibly important to train yourself to have your first instinct be to look something up.
Don't know how to do something? Look it up.
See a piece of news mentioned on social media? Look it up.
Not sure if something is making it to the broader public consciousness, either because you don't see it much or you see people saying nobody is talking about it? Look it up.
Don't know what a word means? Look it up.
It will make you a better reader and a better writer, but it will also just make you more equipped to cope with the world.
So often, I see people talking about something as though it is the first time anyone has ever acknowledged it, when I've been reading reports about it on the news for months or years. Or I see someone totally misinterpreting an argument because they clearly don't know what a word means--or, on the other hand, making an argument that doesn't make sense because they aren't using words the right way. source

Hunter Schafer had her passport gender marker changed back to M after years of having at as F, and she said the only document not changed was her birth certificate. Implies the agency responsible for passports is cross referencing with other documents and is not just denying new gender marker changes but will start forcibly reverting them to their original marker. God knows what else they have access to but I'm sure it's not pretty. source

In ~these times~ it is important for queer people to be reminded of what "coming out" originally meant. "Coming out" did not mean telling all of your co-workers something super stigmatized and vulnerable about you, wearing your queer status on your sleeve in public, informing the police or government institutions about your sexuality, or even telling your parents. "Coming out" meant venturing out into the queer community; being among other queers as a queer yourself.
Coming out isn't about telling the entire world when doing so is not safe for you, it's not about arming your enemies with information they could use against you. No, coming out is about making a fulfilling queer life possible for yourself through participation in the queer community. It is about escaping the restrictions and dangers of the cisgender heterosexual world by rooting oneself more deeply into the queer one. source

contrary to popular belief i think calvin's adhd is, funnily enough, medicated. he takes extended release ritalin every morning alongside his chocolate frosted sugar bombs. this is because he appreciates being more easily able to focus on his various Schemes, Projects, and Machinations while more effectively ignoring schoolwork

calvin's dad pulling up to the house and seeing the whole driveway covered in a (completed) snowman recreation of the entire terracotta army and he takes a deep breath and greets calvin's mom with "i see calvin remembered his methylphenidate today" source

as a librarian and former child, I do think, generally, everyone needs to be less concerned with what kids are reading and more concerned with being someone who children in your life can talk to if they stumble upon something that scares or confuses them. source
