💔🌹😭 #Paquita LOUD from mi Mami’s black tower sound system is my childhood.

2,fda

source

Heads up for people who use Kindle for reading:
Amazon is removing the ability to "download and transfer" ebooks on February 26th. This feature allows you to download the files for all of your ebooks with the intent to transfer to your device via USB, but you can also convert/jailbreak the files to add to another device or send to friends.
With the looming threat of book bans, and the knowledge that Amazon has the ability to delete or edit books you have already paid for, it's probably a good idea to download all of your books so you have copies saved on a computer or hard drive.
There are lots of tutorials online and it's a really easy process. It took me about an hour to download almost 400 titles that i've purchased over the last decade.
Generally, i'm likely moving away from Kindle this year (the Kobo Libra Color has my eye) and this will allow me to add all my Kindle titles to a new reader once I have it. source

Nothing in the US is going to get better until we abolish slavery for real. Ubiquitously, with no exceptions. Protecting the rights of prisoners actively protects every person in the country.
If the laws allow for any class of people to be stripped of their rights, then any person could be stripped of their rights. And the State has an active incentive to criminalize its critics (like Briana Boston, who was arrested for terrorism despite never having committed a crime.)
As long as criminality is an excuse to strip anyone of their rights, none of us are safe. source

Currently thinking about non-English translations of Jabberwocky, because it has to be so hard translating a nonsense poem.
And it’s not just making the nonsense words fit the translated language’s morphology, you have to have most of the nonsense words mean something for a later chapter in the book where Humpty Dumpty explains the portmanteau words. So in one Japanese translation, “frumious,” which is a portmanteau of “fuming” and “furious,” is translated as “takeburu,” which draws on the words “takeru,” fierce, and “keburu”, to smoke.
But I also just love the names of the Jabberwock in other languages. In French he’s le Jaseroque, der Jammerwoch in German, Barmaglot in Russian, and at least one Danish translation named him Kloppervok. It’s the one word you could very justifiably keep untranslated, but everyone wants to make the name fit, make it feel at home in the translation.
I have no point here, I just think it’s neat. source

oh i never know how to explain this properly but i looooooooooooooooove when a story just absolutely TELLS you something and it’s so obvious it goes right by you. like the equivalent of hiding in plain sight. i’m thinking in the original cut(?) of alien where they showed the full xenomorph, crouched and ready to pounce, but because we’ve never seen it before, we can’t tell what it is and interpret it as part of the spaceship. or it’s a detail that seems so out of place or wildly insane that you automatically ignore it and assume you misinterpreted until that exact detail comes back in a big way? (like when noah the raven boy flat out tells everyone he’s a ghost and they take it as a joke, so the reader does too) is there a tvtropes name for this i’m obsessed with it
