If we wanted to engage in nuance (lol, lmao) on the "are audiobooks reading" debate, we really do need to bring literacy, and especially blind literacy, into the conversation.

Because, yes, listening to a story and reading a story use mostly the same parts of the brain. Yes, listening to the audiobook counts as "having read" a book. Yes, oral storytelling has a long, glorious tradition and many cultures maintained their histories through oral history or oral + art history, having never developed a true written language, and their oral stories and histories are just as valid and rich as written literature.

We still can't call listening in the absence of reading "literacy." source

No because I've been made to feel like an old man yelling at clouds when for YEARS I brought up how weird and dangerous it was that we were shifting towards a "if you don't have your legal name, age and other sensible infos in bio (medical diagnosis?? triggers?? sexuality you name it) you are NOT to be trusted!!!!!" mentality, but LOOK AT US NOW! LOOK AROUND!!

We've normalised putting our real selves so much online because "otherwise we don't know who could be a creep" that corporations feel SO safe and sound asking us for our IDs, shoving fucking face recognition and age assumptions algorithms down our throats. Because now kids aren't taught by older kids to lie on the internet, adults aren't infusing them with the Fear Of The Big Bad Internet like they did with us, nobody is creating an internet persona anymore because we normalised selling ourselves out to every social media ever. source

i think community radio should be the only kind of radio that's allowed. dj this morning was back announcing the songs he'd just played and said "and then we had mykonos by fleet foxes, one of hunter biden's crack smoking songs" and then went on a 7 minute tangent about how good a hunter biden podcast would be. you just aren't getting that on commercial radio

he just came back on the air and apropos of nothing said "fbi are in my dms, which is good. right where i want 'em." source
Image: Marge Simpson holding a large potato. The potato is captioned:

"Bisexuals including asexuals in their community"

Marge: "I just think it's neat."

An exchange on social media:

Person 1: "Shoutout to, like, 14 year old me who thought he was bi cause he felt 0 attraction to men and 0 attraction to women and 0=0 which is equal attraction THEREFORE I was surely equally attracted to both men and women and, thus, bisexual, thank you for coming to my tedtalk

Person 2: "Fun Fact! Back in the Olden Days, the bisexual community welcomed asexuals for this exact reason!" source

changing my mindset from “if I don’t keep my home clean i’m a useless horrible failure” to “i deserve to live in a comfortable, clean environment, so i will do my best to provide myself with that” has been fairly life changing

and it applies to so much!!!! i try to take whatever i’m beating myself up over, like “i haven’t been eating enough veggies lately so i suck as a human,” and instead reframe it as “my body deserves all the important nutrients found in vegetables” and suddenly i’m ten billion times more inclined to actually prioritize eating more veggies

shame is a paralytic!!!!! self compassion is an actual motivator!!!!! source

something white people (and nonblack people of colour) need to know is that if your friend of colour comes up to you to tell you that you were being racist in some way or another, that is an act of trust.

Tumblr user rabbitscreams:

to elaborate: if they dont trust you to react well to criticism about your behaviour, they wont say fucking shit to you. theyll just silently absorb it until they cant take it anymore. do you know just how many microaggressions and casual acts of racism are tolerated every day by the poc around you? probably not!

your friend saying "hey that was kinda racist :/" is you being given a chance to apologize to them and do better, rather than you getting relegated to being Yet Another Source Of Pain. source
