Assipattle and the Mester Storworm

In early January, with only a couple weeks till my husbands birthday, I ambitiously decided to create something for him.
I fell in love with the artwork in this book and knew doing a carving based on a Scottish myth was the way to go for my husband, considering his heritage.

Unfortunately his birthday was a week ago and I’ve only just finished the piece (with a couple more coats of linseed to go) but better late than never right?

The families who labor to create a freer world for their children will be the foundation of our people’s great rebirth.
Their sacrifices today will bear great fruit in the coming generation.

This piece is inspired by traditional folk arts and is intended to honor the families that keep the homesteading tradition of America alive. They will set a strong and independent example for their children who will follow in their footsteps.

Remember where you came from and your path forward will be clear.

From a few years ago; I carved and gave these out to friends and family for Yule gifts and decided to make each one individual asking each person what colour they would like. Some are used as Yule tree ornaments having loops screwed into their heads while others are used as simple ornaments but they can be burned as offerings too.... to my knowledge none of these have had that fate yet.
