As part of the New Year calendar, we have mentioned St Isaac's Cathedral many times

The interior decoration of St Isaac's Cathedral is unique in its variety of materials: marble, jasper, granite and precious stones reflecting the richness of geological formations of Russia and different parts of the world.

πŸ“ The historic building is located in Saint Petersburg, in the same city as the Karpinsky Institute. You’re probably familiar with the rich and varied collection of nuggets housed inside the cathedral, but we couldn’t resist sharing a picture of it. Greetings from St. Petersburg! πŸ‘‹

Venezuela πŸ‡»πŸ‡ͺ

A tepui or tepuy, is a table-top mountain or mesa found in South America, especially in Venezuela. The word tepui means "house of the gods" in the native tongue of the Pemon, the indigenous peopleπŸŒπŸ”οΈ
Tepuis tend to be found as isolated entities rather than in connected ranges, which makes them the host of a unique array of endemic plant and animal species. Notable tepuis include Auyantepui, Autana, and Mount Roraima. They are typically composed of sheer blocks of Precambrian quartz arenite sandstone that rise abruptly from the jungle. Auyantepui is the source of Angel Falls, the world's tallest waterfall.

Every rock or fossil tells a story. To most people, rocks are just rocks, but to the experienced geologist, they are clues, valuable evidence that can be read clearly if you only know how to do it.

The last day of Pompeii from a geological point of view:

The eruption of a volcano can be terrifying. In ancient times, and even today in many cultures, eruptions are regarded as a sign of the gods' wrath or a punishment for disobedience to divine commandments. πŸŒ‹Their immense power, deafening roar, and destructive force are more frightening than any other geological phenomenon, except perhaps earthquakes.

Nevertheless, as early as antiquity, the first truly scientific ideas about what a volcano is and how it erupts began to emerge. In a sense, the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 can be considered the starting point of our modern understanding of the Earth and the event that gave rise to geology as a scientific discipline.
