Although I have not accepted any of the offers, I applied and got accepted to around eight MPH programs in the USA. The new SOPHAS application cycle will open in two months. And I think it is a good time to share my experience on the process of grad school application. Dr. Misikir Kassahun and Dr. Abenezer Bati have kindly contributed to this 50-minute video. We hope it helps.
The video is already on the YouTube channel. I would like to suggest another USMLE Step 1 experience sharing video by Dr. Melat Asgedom uploaded on the channel two days ago.

As you may have recently seen, Dr. Muluken Zeleke has scored among the best scores for the USMLE Step 2CK exam, and in this episode he shares his USMLE journey. although we mentioned about his step 1 preparation , most of our talk were about his step 2Ck exam and preparation. I have learned a lot from this episode, and I think anyone interested in the USMLE journey would benefit from this interview.
As he mentioned in the talk, currently Dr. Muluken Zeleke is preparing to apply for the next residency match cycle, and he appreciates any guidance and mentorship from current residents and attendings so that he can land on a residency program of his choice.

๐จ URGENT APPEAL ๐จ
Dear friends and supporters, We come to you today with a heartfelt plea for help and support of Dr. Duresa Terfa
Dr Duresa Terfa is a recent Jimma University medical graduate working in a rural hospital (Burqa Dhintu Primary Hospital), has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer. He is in desperate need of our assistance to afford the costly treatment, which is only available abroad.
Osteosarcoma is a formidable opponent, but with the right treatment, there is a hope for Dr. Duresa's recovery. He is attending his medical care (chemotherapy) at Black Lion Specialized Hospital, However the medical board has decided to refer him abroad for better investigation and management.
Dr. Duresa has dedicated his life providing healthcare to those in need, often with limited resources. Now, he finds himself facing a devastating diagnosis that he cannot overcome alone. As a compassionate community, we have the power to make a difference and show him that he is not alone in this fight.
Let's rally together to provide Dr. Duresa with the support he deserves. The cost of the treatment required, along with the expenses for travel and accommodations, is estimated to be around 60,000 USD (3.3 million ETB according to current CBE foreign currency exchange). Which has placed an overwhelming burden on his shoulders.
We can help alleviate this financial strain by making a contribution, no matter how small to his dedicated treatment fund, your support means the world to him.

I would like to thank Dr. Jilcha D. Feyisa for sharing his USMLE and career journey. He matched to one of the very competitive specialities (radiation oncology) at an Ivy League university.
Not only that, he finished all the required exams (Step 1, Step 2CK, and OET) in 8 months. impressive! right? From working in a rural hospital to his residency training in Addis or his life abroad, I believe many Ethiopian physicians would relate to his life journey, and if any of you reading this are in one of those positions, know that it is possible! Dream big and work hard!
You have no idea how grateful I am to be able to talk to these impressive individuals; they are all the motivation we need!
Have a blessed week!

Update on Dr. Tadewos Shamebo
This is Dr Tadewos who was admitted to Hawasa university comprehensive specialized hospital on Ginbot 1/15, with a Dx of quadriplegia secondary to GBS.
He was immediately admitted to ICU stayed for 30 days. During his first ICU stay he was treated with IVIG for 5 days, then he develeoped autonomic instability. He was on metronidazole, cefipime, ceftazidime vancomycin, cefriaxone and ciproflaxillin for over 2 weeks course for GI onset sepsis and also on Gabapentin, Propofol and Morphine for sever pain.
He was intubated for about 20 days. Then extubated and transferred to ward and stayed for about 3 days, then he developed aspiration pneumonia due to diaphragmatic involvement of the disease and developed loss of cough reflex & deteriorated.
For the above development he was readmitted to ICU & tracheostomy was done, he stayed there for about 20 days in ICU. He was put on all the above medications except for IVIG.
There were so many investigations which were done on a daily basis but some of which were very costy like nerve conduction test, serum electrolytes, CT scan With/without contrast, MRI & CXR.
Currently he is on 37th post procedure day after tracheostomy was done for an indication of prolonged intubation due to diaphragmatic paralysis.
The hospitals plan was to stay there for three months and take to rehabilitation center to start physiotherapy but the family even can't afford the hospitals bed now.
Currently he is improving, muscle power (upper initially 0 now 4/5 lower initially 0 now 2/5) and on NG tube feeding.
So far all medications were bought and investigations were done because of your support. Due to their financial constraints, his family is currently considering discharge against medical advice.
Let us help Dr. Tadewos Shamebo
