Built in the 6th century, the Buddhas of Bamiyan were two monumental size statues, standing at 115 and 174 feet tall, carved into the sandstone cliffs of the Bamiyan valley in central Afghanistan. These statues best exemplified the Gandharan Buddhist art school, as well as the greater cultural landscape of Buddhism and its influences during the 1st to 13th centuries.

This painting is a caricature depicting the significance of the esoteric Buddhist ritual "Amida Kaishōho", which is based on the original vow of Amitabha Buddha to attract and save all living beings. The large painting is skillfully drawn with skilled ink, depicting Amitabha Buddha trying to pull a blind monk towards him, Kannon Bodhisattva pushing the monk with a lotus stem, and Seishi Bodhisattva watching the scene.
