Vladimir Putin spoke on Russia-US talks in Riyadh

I would rank them as successful. There were some results. The first thing I would like to say is that we agreed to resume the normal work of diplomatic missions. The constant expulsions of diplomats from Washington or Moscow do not do any good. <...> The second thing is that we, in my opinion, took the first step towards resuming our joint work in many different areas of mutual interest, including the Middle East in the broadest sense, meaning our continued presence in Syria, the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, and many other issues that involve both the United States and Russia — even though it is the situation in Ukraine that is of primary importance to us. We also have other issues to address, such as the economy and our collaboration in global energy markets.

The President shared his assessment of the recent talks with the media during his tour of the Radar MMS research and production company.

The fact that the company continues to produce popular civilian consumer goods, including state-of-the-art high-speed hydrofoil craft, is crucial. <...> Of course, handling defence contracts also remains a priority for you. <...> Tonight, we will assess how efficiently the resources are used, how the company is moving forward in broader terms, and what plans you have for the long-term.

The President made a speech at the Anatoly Sobchak memorial concert

It would be no exaggeration to say that he was among those who laid the foundations of modern Russia. And he was just as ambitious, deep, and insightful in his thinking as mayor. I can say this for sure, because I personally saw how he thought, how he spoke, and what he spoke about.

Anatoly Aleksandrovich loved his, and our, city and was a natural, harmonious match for St Petersburg as its mayor, investing his talent, intelligence, and exuberant energy in developing the city. Granted, he also had to live through some difficult times here, facing betrayal and slander. But he never responded in kind, he never stooped so low. He was always at the height of nobility and dignity. And this is how we will remember him.

The President emphasised the importance of humanising the justice system

It is imperative to continue the efforts to humanise criminal legislation and its application in practice. Courts have reviewed cases of almost 680,000 citizens, and for almost one in five, the criminal cases were dismissed. Among those convicted, only one third received prison sentences, while the remaining 71 percent were sanctioned with alternative punishments. Granting a reprieve of the implementation of an imprisonment sentence to pregnant women, women who have a child under 14, as well as men who are the sole caregivers of children under 14, would also promote the humanisation process. Additionally, court rulings ordering the release of inmates due to health conditions are to be implemented immediately.
