The Bamboo Tree Effect - Why You Might Not Be Seeing Results Yet 🌱

“The Chinese bamboo tree grows nothing above ground for 4 years. But during that time, it builds a strong root system. In the 5th year, it grows 80ft in just 6 weeks.

Success often works the same way. You might be putting in the work, seeing nothing, and thinking you're failing, but you could just be building roots.

Have you ever had a breakthrough after a long period of no results? Would love to hear your experience.” Ali Abdaal

The Porcupine's Dilemma

“Imagine two porcupines, cold and shivering, trying to keep warm on a frostbiting night. They huddle together to share their warmth, but as they do so, they prick each other. Half of the evening becomes a spiky dance, as the porcupines oscillate between shared warmth and painful pricks.

For Schopenhauer, almost all of our relationships are like this thorny tango. The Porcupine's Dilemma is a useful way to reflect on our relationships because sometimes a relationship can be overbearing and suffocating. It can tire us out, but at other times, it might be the light of our life. It's all to do with the #boundaries we have and the boundaries we set. In other words, it’s about how long or short our spikes might be.” Jonny Thomson

“Sometimes we feel unsuccessful, stuck, or like we’re falling behind. 😞

But here’s the truth: success doesn’t come from walking someone else’s path. It comes from discovering your own unique way forward, unlocking your limitless potential through growth and learning. 🧠

Your path might not make sense to others—just like theirs might not make sense to you. That’s okay. 🌱

Life isn’t about fitting into someone else’s idea of “right.” It’s about honoring your journey, trusting your timing, and embracing the beauty of our differences.

Keep growing, keep evolving—because the only limits are the ones you place on yourself. 🚀” Jim Kwik

"HOW TO CHANGE YOUR HABITS," outlines a process for habit modification. The flowchart is divided into three main sections:

Routine Development,
Set Specific Goals,
and Support Systems.

Each section details steps and strategies to facilitate habit change.

Identify habits to change: This is the starting point of the process.

Routine Development:
Cue-Routine-Reward: This cycle is a core concept in habit formation.
Cue: An event that triggers the routine (e.g., placing workout clothes next to the bed).
Routine: The behavior itself (e.g., morning exercise).
Reward: The positive reinforcement for completing the routine (e.g., feeling accomplished).

Examples:
Placing workout clothes next to the bed for morning exercise.
New running shoes or a movie night as a reward.

Set Specific Goals:
Research 'best practices': Look into effective methods related to the desired change (e.g., for health improvements).
Seek professional advice: Consult experts if needed.
Create actionable steps: Break down the goal into manageable tasks.
Identify motivations: Understand the reasons for wanting to change (e.g., career advancement, fear of regret, validation).
Monitor progress: Track advancement towards the goal.
Adjust strategy if needed: Adapt the approach based on progress.
Celebrate small wins: Acknowledge and reward achievements along the way.
Long-term consequence analysis: Consider the long-term effects of the habit change.
Establish long-term commitment: Solidify dedication to the change.

Support Systems:
Adjust environment: Modify surroundings to support the new habit (e.g., remove junk food).
Inform friends & family: Share the goal with others for support.
Remove distractions: Eliminate things that hinder progress.
Accountability systems: Implement methods to stay on track.
Vision boards: To help visualize goals.
Commitment on social media.
"If-then" plans.
Financial investment in the process.
Apps.
Accountability partner.

Change for good!: This is the ultimate outcome of following the process.
An interesting and powerful words of wisdom from a dear friend Nadia Waber  I read this on her #FacebookPage some years back and I feel like it should be our #everydayreminder.

'I woke up this morning and wondered if instead of our names, people called us by the value or vice that seemingly guided our interactions with them for the most part, what would we be known by?

How many of us would be called hope or compassion?  Integrity or honesty?  How many of us would be called love or wisdom? Generosity or patience?

Would there be masses of us called hateful, racist or greedy? Indifferent, deceitful, arrogant or crude? Dishonest, gossipy, unjust, or harsh?

Would the courageous overpower the cowardly?
Would kindness and caring conquer cruelty?
Would confidence break down arrogance and boldness break down fear?
Would self-control prevail over self-indulgence and determination over complacency?

If we were known by what guided our decisions, which values would find themselves present in the names we were known by?

Forgiveness or bitterness
Gentleness or aggression
Harmony or hostility
Hope or despair

Would we be named by respect or inconsideration? Self-discipline or chaos?

Would there be more of us known by our love towards others instead of our fear of them? Or, even worse, our unawareness of them?

I would like to believe that value would win over vice, and the balance would weigh heavy towards those who are known for the benefit they bring to others, rather than towards those who seek to benefit only themselves.  And I would like to believe that you and I will do our part to make sure that is our reality.

Choose beauty both inward and outward over ugliness every day and be always the reason that people have hope in this world and never the reason people might dread it.

Let's live love and all other things that are good today.'

“WHENEVER YOU FIND YOURSELF ON THE SIDE OF THE MAJORITY, IT IS TIME TO PAUSE AND REFLECT!

When watching the experiment, you might think, “So what if they follow?” But that’s exactly what the majority of people do daily without realizing the cost. They follow trends, social norms, and popular behavior, even when it slowly poisons their minds, disconnects them from their truth, and harms their bodies. We do so many things that don’t actually make sense, but they’re trendy, so we follow. “Everyone’s doing it. So… why not me?” That’s the trap of mass mentality!

Now, if you genuinely feel aligned with something, then absolutely do it. But too often, we don’t even pause to ask ourselves: Does this reflect my values? Does this align with my truth?

One of the most important things in life is learning to quiet the noise of the world and tune in to the voice of your heart, that’s where your truth lives. And only from there can you truly live as your most authentic self.” Gabriella Melrose

The artist Charlie Chaplin lived for 88 years and left behind four life lessons:

1. Nothing is permanent in this world—not even our troubles.

2. I love walking in the rain because no one can see my tears.

3. The most wasted day in life is the day we do not laugh.

4. Six of the best doctors in the world: Sun, Rest, Exercise, Diet, Self-respect and Friends.

Stick to them throughout your life and enjoy a healthy life.
– If you look at the moon, you will see God's beauty.
– If you look at the sun, you will see God's power.
– If you look in the mirror, you will see the best of God's creations.
So believe it—we are all travelers; life is just a journey.
Live today, for tomorrow may or may not come.

Kahlil Gibran “On Fear”

It is said that before entering the sea
a river trembles with fear.

She looks back at the path she has traveled,
from the peaks of the mountains,
the long winding road crossing forests and villages.

And in front of her,
she sees an ocean so vast,
that to enter
there seems nothing more than to disappear forever.

But there is no other way.
The river can not go back.

Nobody can go back.
To go back is impossible in existence.

The river needs to take the risk
of entering the ocean
because only then will fear disappear,
because that’s where the river will know
it’s not about disappearing into the ocean,
but of becoming the ocean.

~ Kahlil Gibran
