My video game morning was ruined.
I've been married 25 years, and my wife has fallen into a rut of watching murder shows, i.e., Dateline, First 48 and such. She has always watched them, but for the last couple of years, it has become roughly 98% of what she watches.
I hate most of these shows because, while interesting, the stories are drawn out, and details are repeated several times within the episode. I watch them with her despite disliking them, because I'm not big into television watching anyway and I get to spend time with my lovely wife. We also get to make fun of the mistakes the criminals make, and we genuinely have a good time together.
Recently, my mother-in-law moved in with us. She is a wonderful person and I'm happy to have her with us. However, she doesn't like idle hands and is always cleaning and asking me to do odd jobs for her or with her. Also, like my wife, my MIL loves murder shows.
I used to be able to play video games for an hour or two at night, but with my MIL here, I'm constantly doing chores. As soon as I walk in after work, she will have "work orders" for me. By the time I'm finished, my wife is locked in on one of her shows, and I won't ask her to turn it off so that I can play a game for a bit.
What I decided to do is play for a couple of hours in the morning each weekend. This was working well because my wife likes to sleep in, and I'm an early riser. This worked well for two weeks.
Two weeks ago, my wife decided she would get up with me so that we could spend more time together.
I'm hosed.
This is only mildly infuriating because my routine was interrupted, and subsequent plans were foiled. I love that my wife is getting up earlier; discussing crime shows is pretty fun, and my wife is pretty damn cool. My mother-in-law is pretty sweet, too, and she definitely keeps me on my toes.
*Edit: I shouldn't have used "work orders" because it isn't that dramatic. My MIL just recently moved in because she lost her husband, and she has late stage macular degeneration (going blind). Her "work orders" are just normal things she needs, and video games are not important in comparison. We're all learning what our living arrangements will be, and eventually, I'll find my alone time again.

Body cam shows officers walk away from man found shot, still breathing: ‘Let’s cruise around and come back’
Shocking body camera footage shows two St. Louis police officers walking away from a still-breathing victim of a gunshot wound to the head because they said they did not want to take the call.
As someone who bakes frequently. This made my eye twitch.

Hundreds of L.A. landlords hike rents to capitalize on 'desperate' fire evacuees
Price hikes of more than 10% are illegal during a state of emergency. But that hasn't stopped landlords seeking to profit from the L.A.'s ongoing disaster.
