These specs look good. I kind of want to get this one, but I'm not sure about the battery.

Thinkpad for Gaming

Hi, my sister gave me her work pc after quitting, a P1 G6

Specs : 16" 3840 x 2400, i7 13800h, 32GB, RTX 2000 Ada

I intend to use it for gaming. I know it's not primarily made for that, so are there any tips to enhance my experience?

Tips for thinkpads in general are also welcome

Thanks

My thoughts: T14s gen 6 w/X-Elite V.S X1 gen 11 w/ Ultra 7

I took advantage of the recent sale at Lenovo and copped me a sweet lil X1. Sadly, I returned it for a T14s and here's why.

# X1 Gen 11 W/ Ultra 7

Battery: I was shocked to see my X1 getting 3.5-4hrs of battery life on moderate to light use (excel, browser apps, \~ 2 native apps). I adjusted settings, dim, updated my driver, switched to edge vs chrome, and disabled some apps on startup and was able to squeeze an additional \~1hr. Not bad, but not good enough

Performance: Sadly, the X1 froze quite a bit and apps were slow to run at startup. This left me to restart my computer every morning or so. It simply didn't perform when running multiple apps, browser tabs, etc. Cinebench multicore score was a bit over 6000, but to its' credit I didn't have the laptop optimized. Guessing it could've done 8000

# T14s Gen 6 W/Snappy Dragon

In a nutshell, where the X1 Gen 11 was weak, the T14 was strong.

Battery: On balanced mode, running a mix of chrome and edge, over 30 tabs open, a few moderate-sized data sets on excel and running Nordvpn, light video/music usage, and 5-6 apps running natively, this bad boy is getting 17+hrs. Now in performance mode & heavy usage, it looks like it'll get between 6-8hrs, but I haven't tested that yet.

Performance: Again with running multiple apps and operations as mentioned above, this thing performs. It's responsive, startup is fast and I haven't had any problems with incompatability issues with ARM. I am getting some syncing issues with bluetooth devices but that's likely a non-arm issue. Cinebench sore was a bit over 10k multi-core.

# Where the X1 is better

Hardware: The X1 is the best-feeling laptop I ever used. The carbon and magnesium frame is solid and has a quality feel. Keyboard is the best on this. A nice weight to it but not in a bad way. It's like holding a metal credit card vs a normal plastic card. That's the X1.

The T14s is thicker, yet lighter, and has a plastic-like feel (*edited). Not as sexy as the X1. Also I don't understand why Lenovo can't put a better hinge on the T series. X1 and Logas you can lift the screen with one hand whereas the T-series you have to hold the bottom of the laptop whilst lifting the screen

Overall, the T14S is a beast of a laptop and I'm loving this snapdragon chip.

X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura edition options to be added soon (IPS)

For processor, it's currently only available with Core Ultra 7 258V

all system board options

Lenovo has most of the LNL options from 226V to 288V prepared. IIRC these parts were available from launch.

On the display side, it's currently only available with OLED. IPS parts were added recently.

all display assembly options

Though only with touch, unless TCH means something else.

5M11N61072 is OLED as well, not LCD like the name suggests.

Might have to wait a bit longer for non-touch IPS.

Also interestingly, PCIE5 SSD parts list has been replaced with Samsung. Used to be SK Hynix, idk what happened here.

Samsung PCIE 5.0 SSDs

Samsung PM9E1 I presume.

Also, also X1C13 had WWAN shells and antenna parts ready from launch. Though no WWAN card has been listed yet.

A small, curious thing: Just noticed that http://www.thinkpads.net/ redirects to this subreddit

The domain's been registered since 2002, and the last functional page served up in the Wayback Machine is a default "for sale" landing from June 2004, so there's seemingly no rhyme or reason behind it. Maybe someone here is having fun. I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome all confused cybersurfers from the information superhighway. Congratulations. You've reached the end of the internet. The TrackPoint is for home row typists who don't want to remove their hands from the keyboard to operate the mouse cursor, and you can swap CTRL and FN in the BIOS or Lenovo's Vantage software. Godspeed, and please sign the guestbook.
