飞机在 08:08:42 UTC 达到了所记录的最大空速 180 节。随后，1 发和 2 发燃油控制开关在一秒内依次从“工作” (RUN) 位被切换到“关断” (CUTOFF) 位。双发燃油供应均被切断，发动机 N1 和 N2 转速开始从起飞位置下降。
在舱音记录中，一名飞行员被听到询问另一人为什么他关闭了燃油开关，另一名飞行员则表示自己没有这么做。
根据 EAFR 数据，在 08:08:47 UTC，双发 N2 值均低于最低慢车转速，RAT 液压泵开始工作提供应急液压动力。08:08:52 UTC，左发燃油开关被重新移动到“工作”位。APU 进气门在 08:08:54 开启，与 APU 自动起动逻辑表现相符。08:08:56 UTC，右发燃油开关也被重新移动到“工作”位。两台发动机的全权数字电控 (FADEC) 自动启动重启和推力恢复程序，开始点火和注油。
双发的排气温度 (EGT) 都被观察到上升，表明重新点火。左发核心机的转速下降停止，并开始恢复。右发成功点火，但无法停止转速下降，FADEC 不断重新注油以增加转速并恢复推力。EAFR 记录于 08:09:11 UTC 停止。
注：目前没有证据表明有人故意关掉了燃油开关。具体为什么出现问题还需要后续调查。
