How do satellites map the Earth?

The video demonstrates the process in which satellites, moving in orbit, gradually scan the surface of the planet, collecting data to create detailed maps. They capture images, measure the height of the terrain, and analyze changes on Earth β€” from vegetation to urbanization.

This process is continuous: satellites literally "draw" a map of the world, transmitting fresh data for science, ecology and navigation.

Have you ever wondered how many satellites are working on creating maps right now? πŸ€”

Oxygen has been found in one of the oldest galaxies, and this is turning our understanding of the early universe upside down.

JADES-GS-z14-0 is so far away that its light has been traveling towards us for 13.4 billion years. We see it as it was when the universe was less than 300 million years oldβ€” just 2% of its current age.

But the most amazing thing is that there are already heavy elements there, although according to classical models then only hydrogen and helium existed.

Oxygen by itself does not mean the existence of life, but it is important for the formation of water and rocky planets. This means that conditions for potentially habitable worlds could appear much earlier than we thought.

Perhaps there is already an analogue of Earth somewhere - it remains to find it.

πŸš€ SpaceX has captured the SECOND stage of Starship for the first time with its tower!

This is a real technological breakthrough β€” the giant Mechazilla mechanism was able to capture the returning stage right in the air. This maneuver paves the way for the fastest and most reusable operation of the Starship rocket system.

A space smiley face will appear in the sky above the Earth

You can see this phenomenon on April 25. The moon, Venus and Saturn will line up in a parade, with the crescent moon as a smile and the planets as eyes.

Happy birthday, Venice! 1604 is afloat β€” literally.

To take this picture from space, the astronaut needed MONTHS of waiting: the right light, no clouds... and one accurate shot.

And here it is β€” Bellissima Venice, as if floating on water, even from orbit it looks like a work of art.

Even the stars are holding their breath, looking at you, Venice.

When the ISS meets Venus, MAGIC is born.

In the footage: April 5, afternoon, clear sky and an umbrella covering the telescope from the sun. At 11:57 a.m. Pacific time, the lens shows Venus in the phase of a thin crescent and ... the International Space Station, flying right across the frame.

At a distance of 400 km, the station appears to be almost the same size as Venus, 45 million kilometers from Earth.

The illusion of scale, space, and synchronicity are all in one shot.

Pluto has a lot of methane and nitrogen ice, but the mountains there are not one of them. They're too soft there. The peaks are most likely composed of water ice, which is harder than stone at this temperature.
