Neptune's largest satellite, Triton, has an unusual retrograde orbit, that is, it moves in the opposite direction to the rotation of the planet 🔵

Triton is also home to icy volcanoes that spew out fountains of water and ammonia, forming impressive plumes. In addition to volcanoes, nitrogen geysers have been found on Triton.

How big would a meteorite have to be for it to completely wipe humanity off the face of the Earth? ☄️

According to scientists, a meteorite with a diameter of 100 kilometres could completely destroy us and leave us no chance of survival.

A flight to Mars takes about 9 months (about 270 days), provided the flight path is optimised to save fuel 🚀

This is possible because every 26 months, Earth and Mars come closer together, reducing the distance between them to 57 million kilometres (compared to a maximum distance of 401 million kilometres).
The James Webb Space Telescope has created detailed infrared images of 19 🛰 spiral galaxies

NASA believes these are the most detailed images of such objects to date. This new data will allow scientists to gain a deeper understanding of the formation of spiral galaxies.

The Universe is full of sounds that we can hear if we learn to perceive them 👂

For example, this is what a black hole 200 million light years away from us sounds like.
Computer modelling has shown that Mars' magnetic field existed longer than previously thought 🟠

Researchers studying large impact craters on the planet's surface have concluded that Mars lost its magnetic field later rather than 4.1 billion years ago.
Observations of the Webb telescope have confirmed the hypothesis about the key role of stars like the Sun in enriching the Universe with heavy elements 🟠

Most of the elements in Mendeleev's periodic table are formed during the birth and death of stars. However, the bulk of these elements are found to emerge not from supernova explosions, but from the burnout of stars like the Sun.

Simulation of the supernova outburst SN 1054 🌟

The matter ejected into the surrounding space during the outburst formed the famous Crab Nebula. The outburst occurred in 1054 AD. Since then, the nebula has expanded to 11 light years in diameter. The expansion rate is 1500 kilometres per second (0.5% of the speed of light). By comparison, the fastest man-made object, the Parker Solar Probe, can reach a speed of about 192 km/s (0.064% of the speed of light).
One of the biggest starfalls of the year awaits in November - EarthSky

The Leonids meteor stream will pass through the Earth's sky from 3 November to 2 December, reaching its peak on 18 November.

Meteors will be visible from nightfall until just before dawn
A fascinating convergence of spiral galaxies has been recorded by the Hubble and James Webb telescopes - Space.

Galaxies NGC 2936 and NGC 2937 are attracted to each other, gradually changing shape.

The merger process will take a billion years.

James Webb has discovered many supernovae in the early Universe

The scientists estimate that 10 times more supernovae have been identified than were previously known. Before the study, only a few such objects had been found in the early Universe with redshift values greater than Z=2, which corresponds to a Universe age of just 3.3 billion years. Now JWST has observed many supernovae that erupted when the Universe was less than 2 billion years old, including a previously known and spectroscopically confirmed supernova with Z=3.8, which is when the Universe is only 1.8 billion years old.

To detect supernovae, the team compared several images taken one year apart and looked for sources that disappeared or appeared. Such objects, whose brightness changes over time, are called transient objects. In total, the team found about 80 supernovae in a patch of sky the size of a grain of rice
The brightest galaxy known to us has been found with the WISE telescope

To say that WISE J224607.57-052635.0 is glowing is to say nothing - it shines like 300 trillion солнц☀️

The supposed cause is a black hole of such gravity that it's hard to imagine its existence. It has long ago exceeded its absorption threshold and is spewing energy into the surrounding dust cocoon, generating a glowing aura.
