The court cited a "significant appearance of impropriety" as grounds for the disqualification, stating it could undermine public confidence in the proceedings.

“This is a rare case where disqualification is mandated, and no other remedy will restore public trust in the integrity of these proceedings,” the court wrote. However, it also clarified that "the extreme sanction of dismissal of the indictment" was not justified.
