MLM (Multilevel Modeling) : One example

Model 1 was a standard random-effects model with sampling variance (extracted from the studies) at Level 1 and the random variance of X (as an outcome measure) at Level 2. For Model 2, we included an additional level (Level 4) to account for the nesting of X within studies.
Model 3 included an intermediate level (Level 3) that accounted for the nesting of X (as an outcome measure) within subgroups, which were in turn nested within studies. Most of the studies use Model 1, BUT this is the simplest way of thinking about our data and sample!!!

💡Another simple example of multilevel design...not very apparent in many situations.
