The revolution was sparked by #BloodySunday on 22 January 1905, when peaceful protesters marching to present a petition to #Tsar #NicholasII (reign 1894-1917) were fired upon in #StPetersburg. What followed were mass strikes, peasant uprisings, military mutinies, and the formation of workers' soviets, culminating in the October Manifesto, which promised limited reforms.
