Present Simple and Present Continuous
β’| Present Simple
We use it for:
πΈThings that are permanent, or true for a long time:
- I live in London.
- People still eat a lot of street food in Indonesia.
πΈHabits and routines with always, sometimes, never, every day, every year, etc.:
- I always try the street food wherever I go.
- I come here every year.
πΈVerbs that describe state (be, have got, want, etc.):
- The countryβs capital has got some fantastic street food.
- If you want to make the perfect burrito, start with a freshly-made flour tortilla.
(β) subject + infinitive + ...
πNoteπ: For He, She and It, we add -s or -es to the infinitive. (Ex: he lives, she goes, it works)
(β) subject + do not / does not + infinitive + ...
(β) question word + do/does + subject + infinitive + ...
We use Do with ππ»(I, You, We, They)
We use Does with ππ» (He, She, It)
The Question words areππ» (What, Where, When, Who, Which, How, Why, etc.)
β’| Present Continuous
We use it for things that:
πΉare happening at the moment of speaking:
- Iβm blogging from a busy street food market.
- Iβm sitting in one of Mexico Cityβs busy park.
πΉare temporary and happening around now, but maybe not at this exact moment:
- Now Iβm writing a book about street food.
- We are working in Mexico for a few days.
πΉare changing over a period of time:
- My blog is becoming more popular every year.
- More and more people are visiting Thailand on holiday these days.

(β) question word + am/are/is + subject + verb(ing) + ...
