Thoughts on Adani hit job by the US : I will not go into timing or who is behind or rationale - all that is being discussed.

I will state something simple. Every company that does / did business in Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia had to pay bribes - one way or another to secure large government contracts.

Many American companies were caught bribing - the Chinese do it non chalantly and the French have their own way of stealing gold from Africa et al.

Every Indian knows this simple fact. So Adani or X bribing to get business with a state government in India is a non starter. This will not ruin Adani’s reputation domestically. It might hurt his business prospects abroad - and that is part of the game unleashed by US.

A short story from the time of UPA II.

A large contract needed to be executed in 24 hours. The clock was ticking, the Minister was deliberately making the “HUGE” business house CEO sweat. Then the Minister said post noon - that he will sign the file at 10 AM next day only if there is a “cherry on the top.”

You see money is no longer a variable - it is known how much needs to be paid. Only very few asked for this “cherry on top” - meaning a beautiful foreign woman. They also specify which one.

This Minister liked watching Turkish serials and asked for a well known Turkish leading TV actress. And she had to be delivered within a “few hours.” It was a plus that Turkey was few hours behind India.

All channels were activated - the actress contacted - paid for - Indian embassy gave visa within a few minutes - private jet arranged - the actress came to Delhi for a few hours and by early morning she flew back to Turkey.

The “file” was signed.

That’s the reality.
