I recently had the incredible opportunity to volunteer with Heart Attack Ethiopia, Inc. during their third mission to provide life-saving cardiac care.
Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of mortality worldwide and in line with this fact, Ethiopia loses an alarming number of people every year and has thousands of patients on the waiting list for the chance to get the cardiac care they need. This mission provided 80+ crucial cardiovascular operations and procedures to underprivileged people who had been waiting for years to get this opportunity.
I have been overjoyed to see the positive impact the mission has had by making cardiovascular healthcare accessible to those in need and bringing hope to countless families. This was possible due to dedicated healthcare professionals from the US, UK, Botswana and Ethiopia with diverse backgrounds who worked hard, navigated challenges and celebrated successes together.
The mission has taught me the power of teamwork and invaluable lessons in leadership, empathy, and resilience. It was a pleasure working with everyone to contribute to such a meaningful cause.
