🔹 The feast has arrived; the fast is no more,
Ramadan’s over—did you see it soar?
Now taverns unlock; the merrymakers cheer,
Oh, coy sweetheart, break a glass, come near!
The saint hides away as the sinner holds sway,
Ramadan’s over—did you see its decay?
It's time for feasting, the fast is concealed,
Now Shawwal's delights are fully revealed!
The pious throw piety, seek heavy jars,
Ramadan’s over—did you see its scars?
The rich man’s house brims with a grand display,
Roast lamb and stews piled in rich array.
The poor man wails to heaven, aghast—
Ramadan’s over—did you see it blast?
The nobles care not for the poor man's cries,
Their plight unseen, their pain denied.
A hundred thanks for freedom regained,
Rise, sweetheart, let thanks be proclaimed!
For now, our prayers have hit the mark,
Ramadan’s over—did you see it embark?
[Ramadan Has Passed – A Satirical Verse published in Towfigh Magazine, Tehran, 1965, English translation] 🇬🇧
