❇️ The Stand of Imam Husayn (‘a)
The history of humanity Is a history of cruelty.
From Cain’s fratricide, we can start,
To the medieval tearing of limbs apart,
Perpetrators of the inhumane,
Governments, rapists, and some insane.
What happens in dungeons and black sites,
What sadists do, even thinking it’s right?
There comes another after each outrage,
A ghoulish necklace adorns every age.
But in the string of such horrors,
there is none moves me more
Than what happened on Ashura,
near the Euphrates shore.
There we find resistance against the abuse of religion,
Subjugation for the enjoyment of power and corruption.
Oh, here comes Yazid, that cursed wretch,
With the dominion and wealth that his armies could fetch,
Does he see what is wrong as he offers his lies?
“I’ve defended Islam, this is my rightful prize.
I fought Christians and pagans and took riches and lands,
Where I set up courts to have cut the thieves hands.
And if your favorite, Abbas, lost his hands as well,
That’s what he deserved, he and every rebel.”
As Husayn is remembered a unique martyr and pure,
Every age has its Yazids and so must endure
Cruel measures said to be needed to put down rebellions,
And for political prisoners, ever more dungeons,
While elites enjoy riches and maneuver for more,
Planning and scheming to start the next war.
Then we are left here with no place to turn,
But from the example of Husayn we can learn
Refusal to give one’s hand to the tyrant,
Resistance and the art of remaining defiant!
