Today, the Russian Izvestia e-resource published my comment on the development of financial cooperation between Russia and Syria.

Here are the main points in English.

- Facilitation of reciprocal transactions in national currencies is of great importance for Moscow and Damascus. Since the Syrians have been looking for Russian investments in terms of the country's reconstruction.

- Development of economic cooperation appears to be beneficial for both Syria and Russia. Moreover, this could enhance Russia's positions in the region, giving our companies the chances to acquire additional dividends.

- Such cooperation could allow Russian companies and entrepreneurs to increase their profits, which is crucial for broadening a taxation base in the Russian Federation along with creating jobs in Russia and Syria.

- Our countries have been facing certain difficulties, restraining the development of the bilateral economic cooperation. Those include the absence of a full peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis, the Kurdish issue, as well as the imbalanced character of the Russian-Syrian trade turnover.

- In spite of all restraining factors, Russia will continue helping Syria in restoring the national economy.

- Regardless of the presence of objective difficulties from both sides, economic cooperation between Moscow and Damascus has been increasing. It could be favorably influenced by a Syria-Türkiye rapprochement, being diplomatically promoted by Russia. The reconciliation of Ankara and Damascus could pave a way for the implementation of trilateral projects.
