Call for Application, PhD in Public Health Program
St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College, School of public health would like to invite applications for admission in PhD in public health for the 2017 E.C (2025/2026) Academic Year. Prospective interested applicants of the PhD in Public Health under one PhD program for Health Sciences are expected to meet the following requirements:
1. Applicants must first take the University National Graduate Admission Test (NGAT) and fulfill the minimum requirement to pass the exam.
2. Applicants having second degree /MPH or MSc/ with thesis from any recognized higher learning institutes in any Health Science fields
3. Applicants holding non-thesis Master’s degree can also apply based on their Research experiences (at least one published original article as a lead author in peer reviewed journal).
4. Applicants less than 45 years of age are preferable
5. Presentation of a sound preliminary PhD proposal concept note (synopsis)
6. Willingness to participate in teaching activities at SPHMMC when it is necessary.
7. Able to transfer official transcript and copy of the Master’s degree
8. Can bring a proof that there is a budget for conducting the PhD research (signed sponsorship)
9. Recommendation letters from three referees two of which are academicians in a related field of the candidate.
10. Self-sponsored or international students should pay application, registration, tuition fee and other necessary fees based on the SPHMMC’s regulation, while sponsored student should present their letter.
11. Each foreign relevant master degree will be evaluated individually by the Education and training authority (ETA) with regard to the degree equivalence and competences necessary to carry out scientific research.
12. As a medium of training is in English, applicants whose medium of instruction was not English for the first degree and master’s degree would be required to provide a valid English language test score of 6 for ILETS and 70% for TOEFL
13. The applicant assessed as pre-doctoral candidate can be invited to take a pre-doctoral courses.
14. All applicants considered for the PhD candidacy must pass an interview and evaluation of concept note
15. The suitability of the applicant can be further demonstrated with additional
Information (exam results, experience, professional qualifications...).
16. If deemed necessary, the doctoral council can impose an additional entrance exam in the form of a presentation and/or interview.

Read the instruction carefully
Click Apply now / Apply for admission
Choose the program you want to apply and click “Apply”
Insert basic information and summit. You will get the following message
“Application has been successfully submitted. Your application number is: 00005. Pay your application fee (400 Birr) using SPHMMC bank account number 1000006577192 (CBE) and upload the receipt file. Finally, you can upload your academic documents on this portal.”
You should record your application number. It is required to upload receipt and document
Click “upload receipt” which is located on the left side of the window and upload the receipt. You will get the following message:
“You have successfully uploaded your receipt. Now, you can upload your academic documents.”
Click “upload document” which is located on the left side of the window and upload the document and click Summit document.
Application dates
• Application opening date: Jan 6, 2025
• Application closing date: Jan 20, 2025
• Exam/synopsis presentation date: Jan, 27/ 2025 (will be notified on social media if there is any change)
