Proctoring of the Listening, Reading and Writing Tests
The Listening, Reading and Writing components of IELTS Indicator are remote proctored for test integrity and fraud prevention reasons. Remote proctoring involves collecting information including facial data, an image of your ID document and anything that is captured by your computer’s camera, microphone or is shown on your computer screen during the test. You must:
show us who you are in an identity check: At the beginning of the Listening, Reading and Writing test we will capture, via your camera, a visual image of your face. We will also ask you to hold up your identity document (which you used to register for IELTS Indicator) to the camera for a visual image to be captured. This will be used to ensure that the person in front of the camera is the person that is registered to take the test.
agree that during the Listening, Reading and Writing components remote proctoring will capture audio and video from your computer’s camera and microphone along with a recording of the screen of the computer used for the test.
ensure that you are alone, in a quiet place inside with a plain background
demonstrate morally acceptable behaviour suitable for a test situation during the test; any failure to do so may result in you not receiving a result and your test fee not being refunded.
Remote Proctoring collects video and audio recordings and biometric data solely for the purposes of:
identity verification
conducting the test
security and integrity of the test and testing process
incident resolution, such as fraud prevention
We may at any time review recordings if we have any concerns about the integrity of the test session or if concerns are raised by a User Organisation

Details of any proven or suspected malpractice may be provided to User Organisations.
Below are some, but not all, forms of malpractice that may result in a test taker not receiving a result or refund.
using notes or materials of any kind from any source
copying the work of another person
using a phone or other electronic device
interacting with another person in the room
communicating with another person remotely
moving out of frame of the camera
looking away from the screen
intentionally leaving the Safe Exam Browser
attempting to use other software after the test has started
misrepresenting the country where you live in order to take IELTS Indicator in a country where it is not offered, including use of VPN to change the IP address
reproducing or sharing any part of the test in any medium
using counterfeit identity documents
allowing another person to take the test for you
