They sent me the following:

MUAWIYAH AND YAZID CURSED?

٤٣٧ - وَعَنْ سَفِينَةَ «أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - كَانَ جَالِسًا، فَمَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ قَائِدٌ وَخَلْفَهُ سَائِقٌ، فَقَالَ: "لَعَنَ اللَّهُ ". وَالرَّاكِبَ "."

رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ.

437. And from Safinah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Indeed, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting, and a man passed by on a camel, in front of him was the leader, and behind him was the driver. And he said: "Allah has cursed the leader, the driver, and the rider."

Haysami (d. 807 AH) writes: Narrated by al-Bazzar, and his narrators are reliable.

Now, who were these people?

At-Tabari (d. 310 AH) writes:

[ومنه قول الرسول ع وقد رآه مقبلا على حمار ومعاويه يقود به ويزيد ابنه يسوق به: لعن الله القائد والراكب والسائق] ومنه ما يرويه الرواه من قوله:

"And from this word of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), when he saw him approaching on a camel, and Mu'awiya was leading it by the reins , and his son Yazid was driving it: " Allah has cursed the leader, the rider and the driver ." And from the same (context) is what the narrators narrate from his words:"

Answer :

1. As for at-Tabari, he only quotes a passage from a book that was written specifically to defame Mu'awiya, may Allah be pleased with him.

At-Tabari begins quoting this book from page 55:

وتحدث الناس ان الكتاب الذى امر المعتضد بانشائه بلعن معاويه يقرا بعد صلاه الجمعه على المنبر، فلما صلى الناس الجمعه بادروا الى المقصورة ليسمعوا قراءة الكتاب فلم يقرا.

فذكر ان المعتضد امر باخراج الكتاب الذى كان المأمون امر بانشائه بلعن معاويه، فاخرج له من الديوان، فاخذ من جوامعه نسخه هذا الكتاب، وذكر انها نسخه الكتاب الذى أنشئ للمعتضد بالله:

"People used to say that the book that al-Mu'tadid ordered to be compiled with curses against Mu'awiyah was to be read from the minbar after the Friday prayer. When the people performed the Friday prayer, they hurried to a separate room to hear the reading of this book, but it was not read.

It is mentioned that al-Mu'tadid ordered the extraction of a book that al-Ma'mun had previously ordered to be compiled containing curses against Mu'awiya. The book was taken out of the chancery and a copy of the text was taken from its chapters. It is reported that this was a copy of the book compiled for al-Mu'tadid bi-llah:...".

And then at-Tabari quotes the contents of this book, including the passage that the Rafidis use as their argument.

2. As for the hadith itself, it is obviously made up, because how could Yazid have been a camel driver during the time of the Prophet ﷺ, if he was not even born during his time? Yazid was born in the 26th year of the Hijra, 16 years after the death of the Prophet ﷺ.

If he had been old enough to be a camel driver during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ, he would have been considered one of the Companions, but this contradicts even the Shiite version of the biography of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

So the Shiites screwed up both ways, as always.
