Your Level of Knowledge Might Necessitate That You Follow a Madhab – Shaykh Sālih al-Fawzān
Shaykh Sālih al-Fawzān حفظه الله was asked: “What is the ruling of adhering and ascribing to a madhab such as the Hanbali, Shāfi’i, or Māliki schools, and is there anything blameworthy therein?”
The Shaykh حفظه الله replied:
“The details regarding this are of three types, the first of which is concerning an individual whose level of knowledge meets the conditions that qualify them for ijtihād. It is impermissible for such a person to follow a madhab, but rather they must look to the Qur’an and Sunnah and take what appears to them as correct. This is only for the major Imāms, the erudite scholars like Abu Hanifa, Imām Mālik, Imam ash-Shāfi’e, and Imām Ahmed, and others who have reached the level of ijtihād. It is impermissible for them to blind-follow because they have no need to do so, and because they’ve been commanded to follow the Qur’an and Sunnah. They are capable of that, and this ability is what permits them to perform ijtihād.
The second type is the firmly grounded student of knowledge who has yet to reach the level of ijtihād. For them, there is no problem in adhering to any one of the four schools of jurisprudence, however they must take what is most probable according to the evidence as presented by the scholars in their statements, regardless of whether or not the correct position came from the Imām of their madhab or from someone else.
The third type is the general beginner, who must follow a madhab and ask the people of knowledge. Allah the Exalted says in Surah an-Nahl:
فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟ أَهْلَ ٱلذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
So ask of those who know the Scripture [learned men of the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)], if you know not. [Surah an-Nahl, Ayah 43]
So, they ask the scholars who are trusted in their knowledge and religiosity, and they take from their rulings. For this one, it’s a must that they follow, for if they don’t follow they’ll be destroyed.
Thus, the people are upon these three levels:
1. The Mujtahid al-Mutlaq (The absolute mujtahid): It is impermissible for them to follow a madhab
2. The Mujtahid of a Madhab: It is permissible for them to follow, however they must follow based upon evidence, giving preference to that over the saying of any Imām.
3. The one with no qualifications for ijitihād within a madhab or outside of a madhab. It is a must for such a person to follow the people of knowledge like the four Imāms, and to question the trustworthy scholars and take from their verdicts.”

The Fundamentals Which Cause Mahabbah (Love) of Allāh (The Lord).
Imām Ibn Al Qayyim – رحمة الله عليه – says:
“The reasons which cause mahabbah of Allâh to develop, are ten:
١. Reciting the Qur‘ân, reflecting and understanding its meaning and its intent.
٢. Drawing closer to Allāh – the Most High – through optional deeds, after fulfilling the obligatory duties.
٣. Being continuous in the dhikr (remembrance) of Allāh, with the tongue, the heart and the limbs – under all circumstances. The more constant the dhikr, the more mahabbah develops and intensifies.
٤. Giving precedence to what Allāh loves over personal loves, when being overcome by desires.
٥. Contemplating and deliberating over the Names and Attributes of Allāh.
٦. Recognising and remembering the favours and bounties of Allāh – both the manifest and hidden.
٧. To be humble and submissive before Allāh – and this is the greatest matter.
٨. To be in seclusion reciting the Qur'ān, during that time in which Allāh descends to the lowest heaven (which is the last third of every night), finishing this recitation with seeking Allâh’s forgiveness and repenting to Him.
٩. To sit in the gatherings of true and sincere lovers of Allāh, reaping the fruits of their speech, and not to speak except if there is benefit in it and that you know that such talk will increase you in goodness and that it will benefits others as well.
١٠. To stay clear of all those causes which distances the heart from Allāh – the Mighty and Majestic.
So these are the ten reasons which cause the person to develop true love for Allāh and to reach the rank of al-muhabbah, by which he reaches his Beloved.”

The 27th of Rajab and the 15th of Sha’bān [Shaykh bin Bāz رحمه الله]
The following question was presented to Shaykh Abdul-Azīz bin Bāz رحمه الله :
“What is the virtue of fasting the 27th of Rajab and the 15th of Sha’bān? Is there any hadīth from the Messenger ﷺ encouraging the believers to fast on these days? And is fasting the first three days of Rajab, Sha’bān, or Shawwāl and any benefit connected to that greater than fasting those days in the other months ?”
The Shaykh replied رحمه الله :
“There is no basis for this. Some scholars consider the 27th of Rajab to be night of the Isra’a wal Mi’rāj, but this is unfounded, and the narrations concerning that are inauthentic. There is nothing particular regarding this night, nor for fasting the first three days of Rajab, Sha’bān, or Shawwāl.
It has only been legislated for the believer to fast three days in every month, whether it is Rajab or the other months. Likewise, the legislation has come with fasting six days, not three, during Shawwāl. As for three days, then this is for all months in general. As it relates to specifying the 27th or the first three days of Rajab for fasting, or the 15th of Sha’bān for standing in prayer, this has no basis, and the narrations that mention them are not sound. The (virtues of the) 15th night of Sha’bān are not authentic and are not to be relied upon.”

When I was young, I used to read a lot of biographies and autobiographies about people I deemed as great at the time, and these were not the people we read about in school. The one thing I noticed is that those people who were deemed to have done great things in the society also grew up reading biographies and autobiographies of people they deemed great. If we are not actively reading about people we deem as the model of the behavior we want to take on, society will give us artificial synthetic role models to teach us the behavior which they want us to take on. That is why you see the Muslim youth today looking up to athletes, musicians and actors. The Muslim youth are not looking up to Ulema and Students of Knowledge. They are not reading about the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his Companions. If you are not active in your development as a Muslim, the enemies of Allah will be active in your destruction. Wake up!

This is why, even today, the first thing I want to see if I am invited to a person's house is their library. If they do not have one, we are done. I will never take a person seriously who does not have a library in his house. If they do have one, I want to see the types of books the person has. If I am impressed with the types of books, I want to pick up different volumes and see if they have even been read or if they are there for decoration. A lot of people love to buy books, but they do not love to read them. All this goes into whether or not I am going to take this person seriously and at what level I will take the person seriously. I have seen brothers with massive libraries, but they fail to read five of the books in their libraries within a year. It is all for show. So, if you need that motivation to become a serious person, read the lives of serious people. Do not follow the lives of clowns. And do not surround yourself with clowns. Surround yourself with serious people. When you take on friends and companions, have a strong criteria laid out. However, you need to meet that criteria first.
Just imagine a pitch dark world!!

Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him is our return. Our student, the diligent one in seeking beneficial lessons, Abu Mansoor Nasr bin Fahd Abu Mayalah, the Jordanian, passed away in Makkah before he could complete his Umrah due to a car accident. And I hope for him a good end, and I ask Allah to forgive him, have mercy on him, honour his resting place, and make him at peace in his grave, and to make him among the people of the highest Paradise. And may He magnify the reward for his family and the students of knowledge.

💎INCREASE IN FASTING💎
➡️It has been established in the Sunnah that the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayh wa salam) used to increase his fasting in this month.
‘Aaishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said,
The Messenger of Allaah (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) used to fast to the extent we would think he will never break his fast, and [at other times] he would not fast to the extent we thought he would never fast.
I never saw the Messenger of Allaah completing a full month of fasting except Ramadhan. I never saw him fasting more in any other month other than Sha'baan.

I never saw the Messenger of Allaah completing a full month of fasting except Ramadhan. I never saw him fasting more in any other month other than Sha'baan.
