قال البخاريُّ: ويقالُ له: اتفق أهل العلم وأنتم أنَّه لا يحتمل الإمامُ فرضًا عن القوم، ثُمَّ قلتم القراءة فريضة ويحتمل الإمامُ هـٰذا الفرض فيما جهر أو لم يجهر، ولا يحتمل الإمام شيئًا من السنن نحو الثناء والتسبيح والتحميد؛ فجعلتم الفرض أهون من التطوُّع.
