پس از اعلام بسیج مسلحین قبایل ابین ضد شورای انتقالی جنوب، ائتلاف سعودی شیخ حسن الشیخ، از شیوخ بزرگ این قبایل را مامور به تشکیل نیروهای الدرع الوطن در مدیریت مودیه واقع در استان ابین کرد. نیروهای “الدرع الوطن” در ۳۰ آبان ماه، تحت حمایت عربستان سعودی و نظارت افسران وابسته به طارق صالح تشکیل شده و اخیرا کنترل پایگاه العند در استان لحج به آنها سپرده شده است.
