We are very sad to hear via ArchaeologyUK that Professor Lord Colin Renfrew has passed.

Many of us here at DV remember our excitement at beginning our studies in archaeology - with a copy of that iconic textbook: Archaeology: Theories, Methods, Practice, by Renfrew & Bahn.

Years later, our well-thumbed copies still sit on our bookshelves alongside his works on cognitive archaeology, social archaeology, cycladic sculpture, the emergence of civilisations, and more.

He has shaped generations of archaeologists from the start of their careers and throughout, and will continue to do so.
